I originally joined CGN after lurking the main battle rifle and milsurp forums. It was the M14 rifle community here that drew me in and the whole reason I joined the site. A couple years before joining CGN a friend who was a long time M14 fan with a deep knowledge of building and tuning original M14 rifles, had turned me on to Dark Industries and I was buying Norinco M14s rifles from him. My friend gave me a very good understanding of the USGI type rifles but had very little knowledge to share on the Chinese version.
So I found CGN online and saw that there was a small community here, tuning and modifying these rifles. Back then there were 3 Canadian M14 "gurus" on CGN that really started the whole M14s/M305 craze that created a great community in the online forums. Those guys were Skullboy, GirlsGunsandFastBikes and Hungry (later Tactical Teacher) and I should also mention Swampy and Oldsmobiler as I perceived them to be among the "originals" in the Canadian M14 community here. I would also have to mention Lazerus2000..... he befriended me over the M14 rifles and helped me understand the essential differences and compatabilities of the USGI spec parts and what could be applied to the chinese rifles. That relationship gave me a better understanding of approaching the chinese rifles from a "rifle smithing" perspective. Our relationship soured unfortunately and it was very sudden and surprising. He chose to become an adversary for reasons that were never revealed although he sent messages to many people with a crimminal record report on someone with the same name as me. However the birthdate of this person was not the same as mine and this person was over a decade older than me. How he got that report troubles me though but I think it must have played a role in his very sudden adversarial behavior. Many will remember the drama from those days LOL..... it's unfortunate but water long passed under the bridge.
My business as M14Doctor transitioned to Ingram Custom Rifleworks and the M14 Doctor "brand" was relinquished to Gothmog who was MagWedge Industries. My business also transitioned away from riflesmithing the M14 type rifles to manufacturing custom rifle stocks in carbon fiber/fiberglass composite. I would still be busy doing that if it were not for the May 2020 OIC. In fact I was ramping up plans to produce stocks for a few retailers who took interest in my products and had just invested in materials to do so when the OIC came along and ended my business altogether. As a former steel fabricator turned disabled person, I managed to carve out a decent niche in the Canadian firearms industry, rifle smithing and making rifle stocks for the M14 was my only means of making an income. I have plans to return to stock making for some of the popular bolt action rifles but it's a crap load of work and equal pile of $$$ to make that transition.
I am hoping that the next election will bring us a conservative majority and that the OIC and ban on the M14 type rifles ends.
I bought my house in december of 2016 and chose it because it came with a fully insulated 18 x 30 shop that suits my business needs. Then along comes Trudeau and his anti firearms agenda destroying all our fun.
I would like to get back to producing M14 stocks and now that I have a nice spot with a shop and large back yard..... maybe hosting a yearly M14 community gathering with the tools and work space open for everyone to tune and modify thier rifles. Perhaps book the range in Lone Butte which is just a few minutes away
We can only hope that Pierre P will act and reverse all of Trudeau's firearms agenda as soon as the conservative secure a majority.
