Blaze Orange

Pack a blaze orange cap with me, if I want to be noticed for pick up or whatever I will wear it. Not into camo, but it is often well priced bush gear. Does Cabelas still sell camo toilet paper.

Cabelas sold realtree camo lingerie at the Abbotsford location when they first opened, the wife and I had a good laugh. I looked at her and said “Camper lingerie” wink wink. She said no lol.

i have to wear it here, even though I would rather not, I don't feel that it has made any difference in my hunting success.

Me neither. We wear it all the time and I don't find it makes any difference to harvest rates, but,it sure helps when hunting public land. There's always other hunters around. It's very important to to be seen at all times. Being mandatory for all hunters to wear it during all big game gun seasons,Ontario's hunting accidents have dropped dramatically...almost to zero.

I would never go deer hunting without blaze orange. I don't care what district I'm in, for a few reasons.

Too many idiots running around the woods with guns (probably drunk)

Also, a buddy of mine I didn't know was hunting that particular day came right up to my stand, I never heard him, only at the last second did I see a blob of orange in the thick poplars.

Some hunters out there shoot at noise as well. Wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of that.

This all happened in my first year of hunting lol. I can only imagine what some veterans have seen over 30 years, probably alot worse.
Better safe than sorry had an Uncle that got shot and was wearing hat and jacket ..idiots everywhere

All hunters and those accompanying them must wear a cap or hat and a vest, coat, or shirt of solid Hunter Orange visible from all sides.

I even wear blaze under ware after being shot at some years back and no I didnot have orange on back then

Sooner be a big pumpkin than dead
Cheers

^^ This.

Unless hunting waterfowl, there is no real reason to use head to toe camo. When hunting upland, etc I always have at least my blaze game vest on, and a blaze hat or touque. For party hunting, or public land it should be an absolute must.

I know turkeys dont care about blaze either, as I've had a flock of 9 walk right past me in a ground blind, but for purposes of hiding movement ( which they do see extremely well), I do use camo for turkey hunting as well.

Alberta abolished the orange attire law. Personally, I don’t wear orange or camo, only traditional drab clothing, whites and black/red plaid.......it depends on weather conditions what I will wear.

Does that include a man-bun or pink........
Just because the Government says it is a good idea to wear Blaze Orange doesnt mean someone might not take a poke at the Blaze Orange wearing hunter.
Guys get mistaken for a moose while riding red Honda atv's.
Rob

Two individuals wearing orange, and riding a red atv were shot dead in Alberta, because some idiot mistook them for a moose. Orange doesn't fix stupid. I do wear orange when hunting pheasant at a release site, or when hunting where the regulations require it, but other than that , I rarely do.

Because you don't see hunters any time I have hunted there just miles and miles of open spaces
We see more hunters in our spots in one day I would say that is seen in a year by an individual hunting alberta in his spot
Hunting conditions are apples and oranges
Christ we just had a guy shot rabbit hunting by his bud. Think about that one. Thought he was a rabbit he said
Cheers

There has been some here over the years I really have to ask myself if it was a hunting accident or a way to eliminate someone.
Yours is in that group IMO
Cheers

Yes I was going to post that to. I wonder what the statistics are of shootings between blaze orange and without.

Im in BC. No requirement for Blaze, however during rifle season I have a reversible toque thats camo on one side and blaze on the other.. when I know there's others in the same area I go blaze on my lid.. same when working a timber block with a partner.

Hard to find a report but some US info here

Before and After Data:

All 40 states that requires hunter orange reported a decrease in injuries when the orange requirement was enacted. That’s no surprise. Along with the color requirement, there is generally a lot of public information about hunting safety, so it’s hard to separate how much of the reduction was due to the direct effects of hunter orange and how much was due to more cautious hunters. An indication of this is that many states and provinces see a reduction in all kinds of hunting injuries—not just the visibility-related ones (victim mistaken for game and victim in the line of fire when shooting at game). The important thing is that hunter orange works, but some might argue that a strong public information campaign is responsible for a big part of the safety improvement. One experience, however, left no doubt about how much hunter orange was directly responsible for reducing injuries. Prior to mandating hunter orange statewide, the state of Maine did a landmark five-year trial in one heavily hunted county. Maine required hunters in York County to wear hunter orange starting in 1967. Looking at only those injuries that could be directly affected by hunter orange, Maine found that York County had 41 percent of the state’s visibility related incidents during the five years before the one-county orange requirement, but only 23 percent in the five years after. Even if some of the Maine hunters outside York County got the safety message and wore orange, the County where virtually all hunters wore it is where the big injury reduction occurred.

I'm skeptical that it increases safety, I think it is more likely so the Game Warden can identify hunters.

Statistics should not be hard to track down, AB and SK are quite similar except AB has at least double the number of hunters.

Does SK have a lower rate of dipsh#ts shooting what they think are moose/deer/bear but are really people?

I well remember when it wasn’t required in Ontario—nearly everyone wore it anyway. When they made it mandatory Blaze camo became illegal—thats what you get when Bay Street lawyers write game and fish laws

In my opinion, camo is only good for hiding from humans and blaze orange is good for being spotted by them. I typically will have some blaze orange somewhere on my outfit for that very reason. I pretty much eschew from camo altogether. I want folk out in the bush to know I'm a person not an animal.

During Rifle or Muzzleloader season. Early Archery you don't need orange once in your stand/blind.

I think those who hunt solo on private property wouldn't understand the benefit of orange because they haven't been in a situation to see how beneficial orange is in a group/public setting. I would think the landscape you hunt would play a large role too as some hunt where 300-400 yard visibility is normal where others hunt where your longest possible shot might be 30-40 yards. In thick stuff it is extremely beneficial when rabbit and grouse hunting or doing deer drives.
