Well I was watching this documentary.
This was regarding all nuclear tests that were done under the ground on the territory of USSR during,60s 70s and 80s some for peace full reasons some not. Like making water holes in Kazakhstan for animals and military reasons like how far they can push the envelope to gain superiority over USA. What made me worry is this. What I saw in this documentary is during that time troops that were either guarding or cleaning, even testing contamination levels after explosions were armed with SKSs.
Holly crap, this means we might have some of these sks in our homes and handling them every day.
Any one tested their stocks for radiation?????????
Am I being paranoid?????

I'd be more concerned about the huge amount of above ground nuclear testing the US did, and yes, a lot of it rained down on us in Canada.

I'd also be more concerned with purchasing surplus that was in Iraq with all the DU used.

As for paranoia, you should be asking yourself why it seems Russia is more on our side than our own frickin' government these days ....

Radiation doesn't irradiate other materials.

Only if there is physical radioactive material on the firearms would it be an issue.

Edit. Also seen a post about Depleted uranium above, DU is not an issue. In the X-ray / gamma ray testing industry it's actually used as a more efficient shielding than lead... Not dangerous at all. Just dense.
