BLR scope and back up sight options advice

I recently bought my first lever gun for hunting. It's a BLR in 30-06. 30-06 because I have another style rifle in that caliber and it's so versatile. It's a beautiful gun. I'm seeking words of wisdom and gunsmith level advice. I topped it with a Burris 2.5-10X E3 optic. Great scope but sometimes it feels a little heavy. I used QRW rings with the intent to remove the scope and use OEM open sights when desired. I bought an EGW rail to mount. Big problem. The rail is too high to see the OEM sights with the scope removed. The OEM sights are beautiful but darn it's hard to see that tiny front post with a gold bead. I'm too "smart" for my own good so I bought a Skinner rail with integrated "Ghost Ring" (aperture sight with an extra aperture) to solve that. Next problem. When the scope is removed, the front post is not an adequate height to work with the "ghost ring." Skinner offers to provide advice about front sight replacement. I am capable of some minor homegrown smithing but don't relish the thought of rifting out the front post as an experiment. What approach would you take to resolve this at this point? Right now, the EGW rail and scope are back on the gun without an end-game solution. Advice is most welcome so I cam carefully consider a more complete plan that I'll be happy with. Thanks

Increasing the HOB (height over bore) of the iron sights can make BLR's a lot more pleasant to shoot.

I had a 308win that would bruise my cheekbone due to the firm cheek weld required to use the factory irons.

I fooled around with a few different ideas, including drilling and tapping a pic rail for a Skinner Lo-pro.

I ended up abandoning the open sight concept in favor of a red dot because the height of the front blade seemed problematic.

Maybe a higher front ramp and hood could have eased my durability concerns, but a backup red dot was more practical for my uses at the time.

Welcome to the insanity known as NUTZ. Greetings from SEOntario. Drifting out a sight isnt a big concern. Brass drift and some support under the barrel, easy peezee.

On my BLR I filed a trough into the middle of the scope mounts to get a better picture of the rear sight. It still had to be set a little high, so impacts were high but enough that could be accounted for with a suitable aim picture
Its also pretty easy to change out a front sight, a good local gunshop can do it in a minute

That's an interesting idea. I'll ask the guys at Tactical Ordnance Inc. to have a look and recommend solutions as they are "magicians." They really know their stuff and I lean on them for work I'm not comfortable with. They're very busy in a good way...everybody likes their work. I'll find out when they can do this when they get my Kick-Eeze pad order in. Thank you.

Welcome to CGN.

You have the wrong PIC rail or modified sights on your gun.

The standard EGW BLR rail will give plenty of sighting plane for the OEM irons once the scope is removed...

I have a couple BLR's with scopes and egw rails. The older rails were 3mm lower and will allow you to see the factory iron sights. You can see how much lower the black receiver mount is than the silver receiver rail. I was disappointed when I bought the newer one and couldn’t see my iron sights. IMG_6701.jpegIMG_6699.jpeg

Could the rail on the second pic be the 20 MOA version ? I have the one as shown in first pic...

The low one came with my 358win and i bought the EGW 43600 rail for my 325 wsm stainless. Both are 0 moa rails for short action blr's

Hey RiversRest. Thanks for the info and the images provided. I bought the rail mail order from a reputable Canadian retailer. The SKU for the part I purchased is EGW 43500. That's what EGW lists for long action on my 30-06 and it is the 0 MOA model because I won't be shooting deer or moose more than 300 yards away. I think your images and explanation solves the puzzle. Just for the sake of posterity I've uploaded the package insert and my setup with and without scope mounted.
