Bolt Action .22LR

OK - Is that 10/22 'Out of the box" ? My B22-FV was . . . now even better with function mods.
I can sort of see someone putting 100 yards instead of 50 yards, but not mentioning that it's a custom build 10/22 over a standard unit would be a whole other level of diss information.... :)

Just like any .22lr barrel some shoot better then others.

The one thing all the "buy an Anschutz" people are forgetting is that for most people a .22lr barrel that shoots bulk ammo well and really does a nice job with something like CCI standard velocity over having to buy Eley or some other gucci ammo is the goldie locks zone.

The most accurate sporter-weight .22 bolt rifle on my place is a Brno #1 from about 1949. Slick, reliable action, good original sights, excellent barrel that your grandchildren won't have long enough to wear out. I have about $450 in that and have bought them in the past for anywhere between $200 and $600 depending on condition. Both the factory 5 and 10 round mags work fine. It shoots a wide variety of ammunition very well. Top of receiver is factory grooved for rings, so no rail is required. A lot of those rifles and others in the series were built, so they're not hard to find in Canada. For years iron curtain stuff was not available south of the border, so they're not as common there.
There's no need to worry about wearing out a barrel in .22 rimfire. Pills are soft lead, and loafing along under about 1,300 fps, and most target ammo around 1,000 fps to eliminate the disturbance of bullets breaking the sound barrier.
Avoid the gimmicky stuff. Just buy a well made rifle you like, do a lot of testing of various brands and types of ammunition to find what it likes the best, then shoot it often.

What makes you think an Anschutz won't shoot bulk ammo well?

Certainly target rifles shoot match ammo better but they still shoot bulk ammo very well.

Congrats on the B22 FV-SR.
You'll appreciate it's accuracy and overall ergonomics and function.

I have the Overwatch version with Talley Lightweight lows and a Leupold VX2 1-4x20mm.

I have done the magazine mod which was super easy and so much easier to load especially down to the 10th round.

Nothing at all.... :)

Some target barrels with tight chambers don't like bulk though and most people buying Anschutz or equivalent rifles looking to possibly chase the dragon of rimfire accuracy will probably end up feeding them premium fuel was more my point. There is no reason (if it will chamber the ammo) that a target barrel on a high end gun can't shoot bulk to the limit of it's ability.

The real question is will a thousand dollar plus gun shoot cci standard or worse better then a $200 shooter?

Really nice set up. Do you recall where you got the rifle?

Pretty much. Replaced the Target laminated stock that Im pretty sure was a Boyds, with a Boyds Pro Varmint and only mod was bedded the stock.

First group with it when I bedded was around 5/8".

My statement inferred that the SR is 'useless' on a heavy barrel in that a short, heavy barrel likely not benefit from a tuner and suppressors are not OK in Can't-ada. You may have found a tuner that 'helped' ?
My FV SR was ragged hole at 25. Bone stock. Won 1st and 3rd with it at a club match. But those were off hand. Both was CZ and Anschutz in the top 3. The 3rd I loss a shoot out with a 54.

My Anschutz shot Federal bulk around 3/4" at 50. TAC 22 the worse. Then again I only got entry levels 64s that never paid more than 650 for. I made 1/2" club with the 64S. The 1403 I never attempted to try. But was working on iron sight entry. Till I got my nerve damage.

CCI planted a 1/4" at 25 one day.

Hardly custom. The accuracy down fall on 10/22 is the single bolt mounting and lack of bedding. So the action can rock in the stock. The stock I broke it when I was bedding it. I guess I did not use enough release agent.

Actually I bought bricks of Eley cheaper than CCI. CT was clearancing it.

Eley makes a range of ammo, it's not all out of reach... good score!

Nothing wrong with 3/4" 50 yard groups with federal blue box!

The mark 2. I have thay and a cz 457, 452.
The mark 2 is my go to,
Especially since it has the 16.5" barrel.
Its cheap and you dont have to worry about damaging it. Super accurate,it was surprising how accurate.
I do love my cz's though.. but sometimes I dont want to damage them.

Pretty much anything will shoot better than a $200 rifle.

The measure of a rifle is not simply its accuracy. It is the ease with which it produces that accuracy and the consistency of its accuracy. The trigger is a big part of the shooting experience. I can produce some reasonable groups with the 10 lb trigger on my Enfield, but it takes way more effort to produce those groups. Gritty, nasty, heavy triggers are just no fun to shoot regardless of how accurate the rifle may be. Try even an entry level Anschutz and you will be an instant convert.

My toz 78 was less then $200 new with 4 mags and hits what ever it's pointed at.... :)

I'm not sure why you feel the need to explain the legendary appeal of the Anschutz but I'm not surprised to here that they have nice triggers.

Like you say a bad trigger can be overcome to some degree but good triggers are better then bad for sure. That said even what makes a good trigger feel and weight comes down to use and personal preference.

Edit, due to Justinflation, that $200 russian sniper rifle would be $400 in today's dollar.
