Bolt action blowup at Silverdale on weekend?

Why in the world would one give their money to a rifle range that comes up with such stupid rules?
Hey the rules written or not work, can't remember ever seeing an accident like this at a range with a single in chamber rule.

HA, HA......7 pages and WIN/64 can't see the fact he is being made fun of.....

Hey WIN/64 learn what the different parts of a gun are..........how the heck can you get more than 1 round of ammo in the CHAMBER

Do you perhaps mean MAGAZINE ?

Too bad about the accident...:(
Last I checked one round is all that fits in a CHAMBER at a time.
It seems the Anti-Troll feature on this board is in need of some updates.

One round in the Chamber and no rounds in the mag. didn't know I had to spell it out for ya...

That's just sad Win/64. If the locals where you are you are seem to have a problem with more then single round capacity firearms, well, I really don't know what to say. As shooters we don't need more restrictive safety rules, we already have way more of those then required, what we need are people who are smarter then the tool they are using. Do you have any idea how hard you would have to ram the point of a cartridge into another cartridge (assuming a primer strike) to make it fire? Your rules are superflous, this accident (and others like it) are simply Darwins way of trying to clean up the gene pool, apparently this fellow was playing in the shallow end. I don't want or need any more "rules" imposed on me (or my fellow shooters) by self appointed safety nazis, and if you're too stupid to know how you're firearm works, just stay a couple of shooting positions down and keep it pointed downrange. Lord, how some people manage to walk and breathe at the same time is a minor miracle. - dan

You could still have this sort of accident if your careless enough weather or not you have extra rounds in the mag. And if you feel you are only safe if you have no ammo in the mag wile firing, than maby you better rethink shooting alltogether because you don't have much confindence in your own ability to operate a firearm the way it was intended and be safe.

The guy musta really been working that bolt with enthusiasm to cook off another round in front..or am I missing something here!! I've never been to a range that allowed single loading only, but if everybody is as attentive as the victim here maybe it's a good idea!

Operator error, nothing more.

It hhas nothing to do with the cartrdige type or action type.
Same thing a CR or PF for a hunting rifle.
If you use it improperly, it's gonna bite ya!:runaway:

For all the negative feed back about range rules you seem to neglect facts.
One the first incident was at a sanctioned range function, Two there is a picture of the results of a second incident. It does happen, I would not like to be the person on range right at the time. I've shot military timed fire and pentathalon timed fire. Good ranges have rule that cover both single fire and timed fire. And for all you experts ask any military range officer how many times that on the cycle action call at the end of timed fire out pops that last round. Sorry folks good rule are necessary just ask any military range officer.

Anyone see or get a better story on the bolt action that blew up at Silverdale? Monday I think.
Heard them talking about it, saw the first aid kit was out.
Gather someone shooting a .308 had a shell in the chamber and worked the bolt hard. Picked up a round out of the mag and rammed it into the shell in the chamber. I assume the bullet point set the primer off. I was told it blew the bolt back and wrecked the gun. Shooter had a cut hand, nothing serious.

It was a 300 win mag. The gun was a Model 70 bolt action. He was shooting re-loads someone had made up for him. The round was probably double charged or way too hot for his gun. The barrel blew right off. The receiver, bolt, and scope shattered into fragments and hit the benches around him, and blew a few holes in the roof. He had a few bits of steel in his hand, and got a few stiches. Could have been much worse. I saw the marks and holes today, and got the whole story.

After reading this thread, I am amazed some one would want to put more restrictions on our actions as shooters. GIVE YOUR HEAD A SHAKE.

When Clitus and Bubba are at the range I agree with the rules whole heartedly.

Ahh I see so you believe in living by the Socialist ideology of Collective Responsibility...ie we are all responsible for the actions that others do. Rather then have everyone judged on their own personal merit, actions, and integrity...like in a true Democracy.

For example...A Toy poodle bites someone in NS, and we have a toy poodle ban across Canada.

From The Poolman's description of the incident it would seem that this entire thread has been based on incorrect information.
The amount of damage described is very unusual in a modern rifle. It is fortunate that injuries were not more serious, both for the shooter and others in the vicinity.
