Ok, so I am looking for another bolt action, likely gonna be in 270 win, maybe 308.

I want synthetic or laminate and SS.

Looking at/for a Win M70 Extreme Weather, or a Rem 700 Mountain. Maybe Savage Weather Warrior??

I don't like Tikka's.

Any other suggestions.

Having owned nearly every brand of moderate priced bolts on the market, I say M70. The current production models are excellent in every respect. I like rugers and savages, am iffy on remingtons, don't mind weatherby vanguards, can't abide the new tikkas, although the older models where nice, but the winchester turns my crank, and mine are excellent quality for the dollar spent imho.

I like Remingtons despite the recent bad press, but only the CDL and BDL models as the SPS rifles are too rough for my tastes though the actions can be used to make made into nice custom rifles.

Thanks, this is the info I am looking for.

I say Win M 70. I have a new extreme weather and love it. Great B&C stock, fluted barrel, good trigger, really nice recoil pad, and really smooth action. These are very accurate rifles. (see the other thread). Mine is 30-06 but I wish it was a .270.

I would say go with the 270 over the 308

I've got the Savage 16 weather warrior in .308 and i really like it. I've never handled one of the winchesters, so i can't compare, but i am hooked on the accutriggers now.

Don't overlook CZ, although I prefer the older Brnos. I picked up an "as new" left handed Ruger Hawkeye in .270 from Epps last winter for my son, and its an excellent, smooth cycling, accurate, reliable rifle that really was in new condition. I am very happy with my FN manufactured M-70, although there is a suggestion that getting a good one is luck of the draw. I don't have much experience with the new SAKOs, but the old L series ones were very good, and I've owned a number of them in all 3 action lengths, my current one is a .222 magnum. There have been enough hiccups involving recent Remington products under their new management that I'd frankly look elsewhere, but as a rule the older ones rate very highly. However, I'm not a fan of their DBM system. If you want a DBM rifle in a 700, buy a good after market one. Another source of excellent quality rifles is Tradex; a commercial M-1600 Husqvarna at the prices they are selling for is hard to match in today's market.

If you are thinking 270 you may want to pay attention to what barrel lengths come with what brands, Ruger and Savage are 22", I think a 270 should have at least a 24.

WSS has the Savage 16fxp3 on sale for $559.00, It's last years model .
sell the cheap scope for $100.00 that makes it $459.00. spend $400.00 on a good scope for a final cost of $859.00 or so. Nice gun at a decent price.
