Bought an Elcan SpecterDR for my FS2000

My understanding from a well informed source is that the 1X optic is optimized for distances less than 65 yards, and the 4X is optimized for greater than 65 yards....

That sounds about right, unless you're talking about a little bit more precision. I've found that in a 3-gun match, the 1x is just fine for double taps in the "A" zone on standard IPSC targets out to 25yds or so. At 50yds I had to do head shots with "no shoots" blocking part of the target. 4x is necessary for that kind of smaller target zone. Especially when you're talking about a timed event, with penalties for hitting the "no shoots".

If you're gonna be shooting 3-gun then 1x-4x. The 1x is awesome for cqb range (0-25yrds), with very quick acquisition of targets when you bring the rifle up from the low ready position. And when transitioning between targets. 4x will be plenty of magnification up to 300/400 yards. There are guys who can shoot up to 600 yards with the optic on 4x. I'm not sure if I'm one of those guys yet. Maybe.

If you're expecting to shoot mostly/only at long range then the extra magnification of the 6x might help. I'm not sure what type of activity you'd be doing for those kinds of ranges though. If you are routinely shooting long range then get a proper optic (and magnification) for the application.

Basically, If the range I shoot at max out at 200yd I'm alright with the 1x-4x.

Thanks alot!

I found the video of the 3-gun match in Rexburg, Idaho. This was the very first time I'd ever shot my FS2000 further than 100yds. With the Elcan - no biggie hitting out to 300yds.

GO ACOG!!!!! Wooooo!!!

I mean.............

GO ELCAN.....wooooo!!! :dancingbanana: :dancingbanana: :dancingbanana:

:nest:

;) just kidding. Stunning setups guys. I'd love a ELCAN and some of those ###y rifles ;)

Yeah, the Elcan seems like it was purpose built for the FS2000. In defense of the Sti I was using aftermarket 10rd mags with flat nosed bullets. When I loaded the mag with ten the first round would nose dive and jam. Once I figured that out and I started to load the mags to only nine it ran flawlessly. I might try ten rounds again if I can find some round nosed bullets. I really love the Sti, the parts fit super tight but the action is super smooth. Nothing like my Norinco (which rattles, feels loose, but doesn't run as smoothly).

Could one of you guys with the SpecterDR tell me what the distance is from the top of the rail to the underside of the housing (under the eyepiece lens).

I'm curious if it will fit over my non folding iron sights.

Me too! I may consider this optic in my Classic Green if it will clear the rear sight a tad.

Excuse the resurect but the Trojan has barrel ramp issues. Send the barrel to Tripp Research for a fix.

I love my Elcan Spectre DR btw.
