Bought the dream rifle, or bought the farm, today.

Well, I've got no future as loader at an English drive grouse shoot either, but I might be able to give you some tips on reloading the double. It would take 2 seconds to demonstrate, but half a page to explain, so hopefully the pics will be self explanatory.

Hook 2 spares under the middle finger of your left hand, if you're a right-handed shooter. When you open the gun, keep it in your right hand and reload with the left.
I didn't have any flanged .375 so I had to make do with a couple of belted rimless.

When you go to reload, pivot your last two fingers around to the other side.

You're now gripping them with your thumb and last 3 fingers, which gives you good control. You should be able to drop both into the open breach simultaneously. With a bit of practice, I bet you could have two in the chambers before the empties hit the ground.
This technique doesn't work as well with shotguns, the rounds are too square.

The same sequence again with a couple of .465 cartridges. This is not a comfortable way to carry spare ammo. And the fatter the rounds, the less comfortable it is.

And for heaven's sake, don't be like those guys on boobtube, standing around with an empty rifle while trying to fish spare rounds out of belt loops. Get them out ahead of time if you think you might need them. Can't help you with the No. 1, like I said, I'm a Mauser guy.

When I thought I was going to take my 470 to Zim I spent a lot of time in the basement practicing reloads from my belt. Left/Right, Snap the action open, snare another pair from the belt and drop them into the action, snap the action closed, fire both barrels then spend 5 minutes looking for the snap caps. The Merkel really does kick them a long way. My method is to grab the bases of the cartridge between my thumb and forefinger, then pull them out together and drop them into the action without having to fidget my hands around. Haven't really practiced in a long time. Will have to dig out all my accoutrements once my gear is consolidated and give it a go. Should scare the #### out of my neighbours if I do it in the back yard.

Appreciate the pointers guys, I've tried the cartridges between the knuckles and always fumble with the release to drop them cleanly in the chambers. Already been the youtube goober I'm afraid 9.3 in the lion hunt video, loading off my belt carrier.

BUM been there, I test ran the gopro for the last hunt while visiting inlaws in the Vancouver area, and flew out of Vancouver after the visit. I went to their back yard with the Merkel in hand and filmed with the camera mount to see what the perspective looked like, and was quickly admonished when reviewing the video for "You just can't do that here!"
