Bow Hunters - Arrogance ??

I have been only hunting bow for the last few years(personal choice to get more field time in).I hunted rifle in the bush previous.

I am not in the archery only area but do think I have a decent spot.It is an area I have hunted for many years previous. Just figured it was time to get closer.

To me nothing beats hearing an animal walk in on your location and watching them walk out not knowing you were there.;)

Hard to explain, but I enjoy it, so it don't matter what I have in my hand to harvest it with!

thats funny.

pushing bush is my least favorite way of hunting. cant judge a deer when its sprinting away, low % running shot and a high% of wounding deer.

im a spot and stalk and use my glasses alot more than most guys. its amazing what you can see when you start looking for it.

kelly do you hunt the bow zone alot? thats good deer country, took my first bow buck there in 07.

Oh I know this story.
There's an old lad where we live who's always asking my neighbour and I to come and hunt with him. He's too old to do much, so he needs the young fella's out there. Really, I have no problem with the motives, it's just the part that he NEVER shuts up, always has a one-up story, can't learn anything from anyone younger because he knows everything, and if you do get game when you're hunting with him, he'll take the credit and go around town telling everyone how you were successful because he brought you to the game.

My neighbour goes out with him because he has permission on lots (LOTS) of land for hunting.

I can't be bothered.....the BS isn't worth the extra acreage.

Sounds suspiciously like a guy I know on Manitoulin Island.

Bowhunting, muzzle loader, and rifle. I do all three because it greatly extends the time in the field and hunting in nice weather is a plus for me. Each method has its good points and bad points. The little bit arrogance I have ever run into are BP hunters that shoot traditional style guns and for some reason feel a bit superior to those of us with in lines.

The plus for me in bow hunting is I get permission to hunt from people that will not allow rifles on their land. This year a very nice gentleman let me hunt on his land and I took a deer while sitting against a fence post with a big no hunting sign on it. I thought that was kind of funny and wish I had a camera . ( BTW I'd like to repeat I had full permission to be there so no one has to get their panties in a twist )

Just like any sport, bowhunting has it's snobs. And just like every other sport, there are various degreses of snobbery, usually dependent on what weapon the snob happens to prefer using.

I use a crossbow. If you use a rifle, you are "cheating"

I use a compound bow. If you use a crossbow, you are "cheating"

I use a recurve bow. If you use a compound you are "cheating"

I use a longbow. If you use a recurve you are "cheating."

I use a spear. If you use a longbow, you are "cheating"

I really don't care what a person uses. Let them do as they please.

However, I don't know why some bowhunters will handicap themselves with a bow instead of a rifle, and then complain they don't get enough special treatment (like longer seasons, special considerations to shoot smaller bucks or female animals etc)

Isn't the point of using a bow that you want a challenge? So go challenge yourself, don't ask everyone else to accommodate YOUR choice...

I cheat alot!!!!And am very arrogant, lol. You want entertainment AND arrogance come watch me practice! :p

I cheat into the barn, the fence, into the ground, the grain bins, neighbors cat( by accident only).

The reason why they handicap themselves is because here they can start hunting in Sept!!Well where I hunt anyways.

I learned to hunt with a bow and now use a rifle and hunt the same way.
I love rifles and hence love hunting with a rifle. What I hate and call it arrogant if you want, are people that can't get out of there truck to shoot at game and drive a mile into the area that I just hiked an hour earlier and think that they are hunting when all they are doing is screwing with my hunt.
Truck hunting is illegal for a reason and I have no patience for it. If you are too old or fat or out of shape to hunt legally than you shouldn't bother at all.

I use them all: bow in all it's common forms (long bow, recurve, compound), crossbow, muzzleloader (traditional and in-line), shotgun, rifle, air rifle & pistol, sling shot. Why restrict yourself to just one hunting tool? They're all fun in their own special way.

There are going to be purists in all aspects of life (like fishing and hunting); these folks often think they are better than you and I. It's part of their illusion and game they play using the most simple of tools and hardware. If you don't play by their game rules and hardware, then you're not up to snuff.

This has been going on forever. When scopes first came in, they were considered non-sporting by some. Before that it was repeeating rifles vs. single shots, and before that muzzleloaders vs the newer at the time cartidge rifles,etc.,etc.

Holy 4uck! If I had my .308 in my tree stand this year, I'd have 3 bucks hanging!! (2 of them trophies)

The stuff I see when I'm bowhunting is insane.

(Mind you...Murphy's law prevails...If I DID happen to be sitting there with the rifle, I wouldn't see a GD thing! :D )
