Is it just me or do some bow hunters look down on rifle hunters? I have noticed this with half the people I talk to who hunt with bow. I have heard everything from "rifle is for begginers" (from a guy who has never shot anything with a bow) to "whats the point of using a gun" :runaway: and if you can belive it one fellow told me he thinks gun hunting should be banned and we all do bow hunting.

I have nothing against any kind of hunting meathod, however it realy earks me when some bow hunters talk to me as if I am a child just learning to talk because I hunt with a gun instead of a bow. I for one and many other hunters get very few days to hunt, so the last thing I want is to spend my very few chances I get to hunt sitting in a tree letting animals go by because it is more the 50 yards away. Has anyone else noticed this as well?

I could give a ratt's azz about jerks like the elitist snobs who think their type of
whatever is the only thing that is right or good or "ethical".
I talked to a fly fisherman once , asking him how the Bow was the last weekend.
he complained that the river was high and the trout were off.
"didn't try nymphing?" I asked.
"I wouldn't put one of those things on, unless you're dry fly fishing, your not a fly fisherman". was the reply.
HELLO?? I was throwing rolls casts before this bum was born, and he tells me
I'm not a flyfisherman?

I hunt with a stick bow, and kid my buddies about their "training wheels" but would never ever tell someone he was not an archer because he used a compound.
The ones that get me however, are the guys who use a conmpound only for the extra advantage for the archery season and think they can take 90 yard shot because they have the latest gadget so they don't have to practice- these guys are slob hunters the same as if they were shooting out of a truck window.
Same as muzzle loaders.
I hunt with loose poweder and patched round ball.
I have nothing against the new inline guys unless they start spouting about
" tradition" and such while sticking a 3-9 leupold on top and only hunt with an inline for the added season and wouldn't bother if they had to do it with a Flintlock or caplock.
Those are the guys that bug me.
I've had a few guys at the range smirk because I'm shooting something big that can go long, and they start in about being able to hunt and stuff.
That's when I like to haul out my other stuff, like the Snider or 577/400 martini!
I like shooting and hunting, but do not tell anyone that "My way" is the only way, mainly 'cause I have one of each, and can't slot myself anywhere!

Sounds simular the guys who...

Shoot trap/skeet and dislike handgun sports...
Shoot a bolt and see no reason to have a semi...
Shoot "hunting rifles" and see no reason to own a "black rifle"...
Hunt with a bow or firearm and see no reason to allow trapping...
Shoot deer over bait (planted corn), and think bear baiting is unethical...
Run dogs on birds but can't understand why anyone runs deer with dogs...

Etc., Etc., Etc...

I personally will defend everyone's right to participate in any legal activity. Otherwise you might loose the sport YOU love...

Cheers
Jay

I do both styles of hunting. I do love the bowhunting for the fact that I'm out hunting the elk rut which is usually before rifle season (no time the past couple of years). If I dont get an elk in bow season, then I have the elk patterned and areas scouted to be prepared for rifle season and have a possible advantage over just rifle hunters.

It just like everything else....brand of vehicles (FORD/CHEV/etc), quads (Honda/Yamaha/Polaris/etc)...sleds, where you live, what teams you cheer for.....the list could go on. Some people are just too ANAL about this things and there is no way yoiu can change their minds or have them look at the situation from a different angle.

I know of very few bow hunters that fit into the realm of traditional bow hunting, in both the methods they use and the means they employ.

A bow hunter that sits in the treestand has nothing "superior" in his approach to hunting when compared to a rifle hunter that still-hunts.

Like Jay and Cat said.... these sort of people do nothing but separate us and I see a very unethical attitude that outdoes whatever else they may do for the hunting sport itself.
We have enough antis. Hunt with whatever is legal to hunt and do it for yourself, not for proving others.....

Elitists- in any realm- whether it be fly fishermen, bowhunters, muzzle loaders or bolt action hunters...Are boring and ignorant.

Although, at one point, I must say I fell into this category. I thought that fly fishing was somehow "better" than anything else, and looked down on spin casters..

Eventually I decided he best part about fishing was catching fish, and the gear you used was secondary. So now I spin cast and/or fly fish, depending on my mood and the situation.

Yes, I make fun of semi autos on the semi thread, but it's just joking around.

In reality, I care not how you catch your fish or get your deer, whether it is road hunting with a bolt action, or hunting over bait wiht a semi or using a crossbow in bow season. Different strokes for different folks.

All valid, all good...

And the spear! we can't forget the spear :D:D

I remember a thread a while ago (Shotgun forum) where a gentleman expressed that pumps/autoloaders (non bird hunting related, I believe) should be segregated into a different forum.....boy, was he told off in no uncertain terms as to what he could do with his opinion :)

Where I hunt, the longest season is the Bow Hunt, stuck in southwestern Ontario. Deer Season starts on Oct 1 and ends Dec 31, with only a few interuptions for the controlled hunts. I loves my bow hunting, being out in the deer woods for a few hours, sitting in my stand, or stalking, is a quite enjoyable pastime.

I also participate in a rifle hunt, to the north of me, with a group of guys, that is always a blast, some of us only see each other once a year, and this is the time. I love that hunt for the commaradarie and the good time spent with friends.

I also do the Controlled hunt close to where I live, with Shotguns or Muzzle Loaders, and it as well is done with friends, and a good time is had by all.

Waterfowling is another favorite pastime of mine, either alone or with a couple other hunting partners, the dog work is what I really enjoy with this hunting, the game is just a bonus.

Some people should focus just focus more on the journey, and friendship, and alone time, more than they focus on the method. As Gatehouse has already mentioned. It's all Good.:D

Yup.... there is always someone to stir poop ;), not a real hunter because you don't use a bow, lolll it's sooo funny :puke:. Oups, sorry.

If it's not for the rifle "against" the bow against the crossbow, it will be semi against bolts against pump against single shot or recurve bow against compound bows or instinct shooting against sight shooting or black powder pellets and loose powder, round balls against sabots or patches, with scope or not,.... and I didn't mentionned caliber, bullets, velocity, distance!!!! As long as it is LEGAL WHO CARES, we are all hunting and enjoying the outdoors  doesn't matter what you use, that be a bow or rifle, but it sure does entertain the conversation ;).

Be safe and happy hunting to all (bow hunters included).

A bit of a story about those who look down at us comoners. I was a teenager fishing on the shore of the columbia river. ( A long time ago ) An a..hole drives his boat into the eddy me and another fellow were fishing and yells the only way to catch fish is by fly fishing from a boat and we were wasting are time. He turns his back to us and begins to fish. The bugger didn't realize just how far we mortals could cast with a pine float on our lines. On the count of three he took two floats to the back of the head. After a few words and realizing that the only option was to bugger off he left. By the way me and my buddy caught a couple of trout that evening and I can't remember fish that tasted so well.

next time time a snob ( and by the way most bowhunters I have met are decent fellows so this does not apply to them) gives you a hard time just say

What's the difference between a bow hunter and a rifle hunter ?

Rifle hunters have venison in their freezers.:D
