Hey guys,

Just got a brand new CSA VZ-58 and went to shoot it for the first time last week. I loaded up one mag of some surplus crap ammo and fired one mag. I noticed some visible sparks and so did my friend... I had oiled the barrel up and all parts properly (as far as I know) so I was confused. Loaded up one more mag or so, and took a video (below, sorry the quality kinda of sucks and no sound but you can see the issue clearly). I got my friend to film it and he said his SKS shooting the same ammo has never done this. I was shooting at a paper target and the entry marks look normal, and some of the shots dont make these sparks. Anyone ever encountered this or have any idea whats causing it? I dont really want to shoot it anymore until I find out, dont want to do any damage etc. From what I can tell taking it apart and inspecting everything I dont see any visible wear or anything that could be catching or anything. Any help would be great. Thanks again.

Probably just unburnt powder burning as it leaves the barrel. Seriously nothing to worry about.. i will say the video is not working for me but that's what I would say. Buy some new ammo and try it again

Could be something that simple...hopefully. The sparks look large is all. I updated the video link hopefully works for everyone now.

Ah I see. I think it just threw me off that it was more "sparks" then flames if you know what I mean. Figured it was something grinding it catching or just really bad ammo. I intended to buy some non corrosive goodstuff for the first while but couldn't find any at the local shop. Thanks again for the replies so far.

Looks darker than normal with the trees. Nothing abnormal to me. Wait until it gets darker and you’ll see the full fireball and all the sparks!

The tighter your skinny jeans are the more sparks you’ll see lol, just kidding. It’s unburnt powder as already said, wait till it gets darker out. It will really light up, there’s a good muzzle flash thread around somewhere. You should see some of those fireballs!

Doesn't look like muzzle flash to me, looks like sparks.
It's good to store the gun with oil in the bore but you should run a dry patch down the barrel before shooting.

use a magnet on your bullets and they are probably mild steel jacketed.see if you can find a box of commercial 7.62 x 39 and take a video firing that.

Hey guys,

Tried another brand of ammo, and some different surplus. Shot like a dream. Thanks for the all the replies!

Probably more noticeable than usual due to the lighting. Looks like the sun is going down, and the trees are fairly dense. Shoot a shorty shotgun at the same time if you really want to see sparks and fireballs.
