I just bought a nib Remington 700 SPS Tactical .223 Rem, mounted a Badger Ordnance 0moa steel base, Brownells tactical steel rings/high 1.125, and a nib Bushnell Elite 4-16x 50mm scope.
While zeroing scope at 100/200 yards using 62 gr. FMJ my shots were very high....so I started clicking elevation adjustments down until grouping were on target...but in doing so...I ran out of "downs" on the scope. never had this problem before.
Note....my previous rifles being a Remington M700 Police .308 Win & a Rem 700 SPS Tactical .223 (yes, same rifle lol) I always bought the Badger Ordance 20 MOA steel base. This time, this base was out of stock....and I wasn't going to wait....so I said f@ck it and bought the 0 MOA base.....so my current base is lacking the forward cant.....this probably is a contributing factor to my current problem.
Note.....I was using lighter faster ammo.....when I go back to 100/200 yard range I will be using mostly Federal/Hornady Match 75 gr / 77 gr. BTHP MatchKings, heavier and slightly slower.....so the impact will be slightly lower....so I'll have to use my "ups" elevations to get back on target....which will remedy my problem.
Soooo.....what you guys think?. I never had an issue of running out of clicks at such short range, but I've always used a 20 MOA base......no I have a 0 MOA base. It's gotta be it???
I won't have this problem when using 77 gr. matchKings at distances like 300/400/500 yards because I'll no doubt have to use my "ups" elevations to correct the significant bullet drop.....but while at the local 100/200 yard range.....I've zero'd my rifle at 200 yards just barely...my last "down" click was used to get it zeroed at 200. At 100 yards, impact point was like an inch above bullseye, note...using faster, lighter 55 gr. FMJ .....if I was using 77 gr. BTHP I'm sure it would be a little lower.
Any thoughts? .....not a big deal....just a little piss off. I shoot mostly at 200 yards, and will be using 75/77 gr. BTHP so I'll be fine. Just surprised I ran out of click adjustments with a Bushnell Elite 4-16x 50mm scope at such short distance. It's large objective lens required me to use High rings for a proper fit, 0 MOA base made matters ever worse lol....hmmmmm.
