BREN appreciation

Sometimes when I am feeling too optimistic about the future of the human race, I remind myself that idiots who watched too many Chuck Norris and Van Damme movies in the 80's made our firearms laws.

Then I am back to feeling hopelessly oppressed by our ignorant political masters.

We need a Ukraine style revolution.....

Oh it sucks alright...Last time I fired a Bren was at Pirbright ranges (UK) back in the early 70's. Dad was a firearms instructor, so as a kid I was fortunate to shoot some neat guns. Personally I think there would be a big demand for a semi auto version in Canada, but can't see it ever happening...Makes me sad.:(

Problem is that in the US they are able to get away with re-welding cut receivers while adding modifications for closed bolt operation to prevent full auto. As long as that major market can be satisfied in that way, nobody is going to take the time to machine complete upper receivers for the Canadian market. I wish someone would. If you look at the BD sport deitrich guns, (various German historic copies of full autos) they sell even at seemingly outrageous prices.

I have fired a number of brens and was always impressed with how smooth they were. You can almost hear the mechanism working between the shots. A quality Bren dewat hovers around the 2K mark these days. I would pay double that in a heartbeat for a semi auto copy. At around the 6K mark, I might have to think about it for a minute or two.

I'd never be able to afford one, but I'd certainly love a chance to get behind one. So many were built in Canada and saw service all over the world. I would bet that there are still some Inglis BRENs in service in many pockets of unrest all over the globe. And we aren't allowed to have any live version. How is that in any way democratic?

You really think that Canadians have got the balls for such an insurrection? Yeah, right ..... that's how we wound up with the gun laws we have.

I hope both you guys are kidding. A full scale revolution were thousands die because you can't own a Bren???? No wonder the antis are scared.

Let's be clear, as the OP I do not think Canada needs a revolution because gun laws are a bit stricter than I like. That's a ridiculous bit of specious reasoning. I had hoped for a fun chat about how cool the BREN is and the possibility of owning one.

I'm with you. I love the Bren. I had the good fortune to use it when in the army. I would love to own one now. I drooled over the one they fire over at Fort Rodd near Victoria. I cut up crates full of them back in the 70s when they were being moved out of war reserve. I didn't care for that part of my job.

I had a Mk 11 Inglis which was FA when I bought it.

I had to CA it and let it sit pretty on its tripod surrounded by all sorts of Bren accessories since SAPs became denied to us.

Then, I got it deactivated to current standards. It sold very quickly.

What is really amazing while shooting the Bren, is that like any firearm you can do mags change, but with a BREN...you can swap barrels, and then because you can do too, you open the beast & swap the bolt within seconds...just because you can!
