Brenneke 28 slugs

Have been wondering the same thing myself.Have a fair amout of C-I-L Imperial slugs and balls but would not mind trying out these new loads.

Actual Brenneke brand: No.

All I've see is the Rottweil brand, brenneke style slugs. I can get them locally when they have them, not sure of who stocks them for online purchase. Maybe ask Elwood Epps?(always had brilliant luck with hard-ish to find stuff from them)

Overall if you find them, count yourself lucky. I spent years looking for them before I moved here.

I followed the link, looks interesting! Other than legal issues, why would a 28 gauge slug be limited to small game? Growing up the neighbours used to dispatch sick farm animals with a 410 slug, would the 28 not be adequate for deer, maybe bear at say 75 yards and in?

Call Accuracy Plus in Peterbourgh. My guess is that you'll at least have to put a deposit on a full flat of these shells for them to special order these for you. That was the answer for 3inch 20 gauge Brennekes I once thought of ordering through them.

The issue with the Brennekes in Canada was from what I recall was the manufacturer refusing to put French on the label. Not sure if this affects special ordering or just retail sales.

You pay out the Wazoo for anything marked 28 and most of the time you can only get target loads.

You can't really call a shotgun useful if you can easily get slugs and reasonably sized birdshot for it.
I hand load round ball and the specially designed wads for them, and am able to hand load CHEAP and super accurate pheasant loads and waterfowl loads for my 5 28 gauge guns.
I don't buy factory ammo, no need to.

Indeed the 28 gauge is not for everyone nor has anyone ever claimed it was a do-all gauge. The 28 may not be "useful" but it is certainly delightful.

"Useful" can remain the purview of the lesser gauges that can be found at WallyWorld and other squalid low-brow commerical outlets. If you want something a little more refined, a little more distinctive then the 28 definitely meets that challenge. ;)

Unfortunatly Cat not everyone has the time to reload shotgun shells. I don't think I could keep all my guns fed and have time to hunt.

That being said I am looking at adding a Sub-gauge as we speak. I plan to stretch it to the limit too. We shall see if the disciples of the 28 have been right all along.;)

The 28 is an excellent gauge for Upland and Small Game provided one always remembers to keep its limitations in perspective. But then again, the same could also be stated even in the case of the 12ga shotgun where many tend to forget that it is not an 80yd tool. :)

I'd love to see someone make a rifled slug shotgun in 28 ga. Shooting saboted loads, you could get ballistics very similar to a 12 ga., nut in a gun that would be much handier (i.e., less weight and bulk). I know I'd go for something like that rather than my rifled 12 gauges.

Get the 20ga Savage 220 or the H&R USH......you'd be more than happy.

I'm afraid you don't know what you're talking about, Ahsan.;)

The RCMP ordered the range in Hinton shut down their trap that was situated closest to the edge of the property along the highway side because "pellets were landing on the highway 200 yards away".

It's too bad I wasn't there at the time. I'd have loved to challenge him to show me even one lead stain on the highway. He'd have been looking for the rest of his life!

They were also concerned about trespassers, who might be loitering in the area immediately adjacent to the property. Presumably, the next phase of this brilliant officer's career will involve shutting down all shooting ranges because homeless people could be sleeping on the property.

The weird thing I don't understand about these arbitrary range rules that have suddenly been popping up all over the country is that they all depend on the premise that someone else is breaking the law and that somehow becomes the responsibility of firearms owners who have nothing to do with it.

In defence of Cat, if you think it's time consuming, reloading shotshells is less trouble than centrefire pistol or rifle IMO.
No tumbling, cleaning is usually totally superficial as long as the shotshell is not muddy or wet. Way less physical effort and the only wrinkle is getting the correct wad pressure. It's a bit slower with slugs or buckshot because you can't usually seat them using the shot dispencer that it.

If we are talking about birdshot only, it's by far the easiest reloading process I believe friend.........

Super simple, for sure.
I use two different presses, a prgressive for my skeet loads , and I have a few single stage presses as well.
The single stage MEC 600 is super easy to use and you can danged near start without adjustmens to a new rig!

With one powder setting and shot charge setting i can load AA, AAHS, STS, and Fiocchi hulls with the appropriate wads with changing anything on the press itself!
can't get any simpler than that.
As far as loading the round ball and wad combination, it's about that easy as well.
