Brigade Makasi MK15 First impression Canada review

Why get it as a restricted rifle? I know some people want a shorter barrel, but as a non restricted rifle it’s only a few inches longer and you can shoot it on crown land or the range and no registration with the Feds. Also I’ve seen reviews on this and one of them was from the Military Arms Channel on YouTube and he said if he only had that rifle that he wouldn’t hesitate to take it to battle, which is great! I really want one but I’ll have to see what happens to it considering the current climate regarding firearms in Canada with the garbage government we have.

Some people only go shooting at the range anyway, so it doesn't matter to them. Also buying the restricted version, guaranteed delivery by the end of May. The NR version has a 3month+ wait and that's for the first batch.

Got a restricted on the way and nr on order. Sometimes you just get the itch

I got a semi flaccid chub for this rifle. I’m waiting for the 7 dec to pass for it to go fully erect or go completely flaccid. YMMV lol.

Personal choice. I've learned my lesson from the last 6 years and will never buy another restricted firearm.

reliable gun in Vancouver. He also said there are more preorders on Makasi than Carmel so fingers cross that I would get mine in the first shipment. That makes sense since IWI is a bigger manufacturer.

Not sure who you spoke too at Reliable but that is absolutely not true. Supplier quoted 60 to 90 days, they haven't even shipped yet....

That isn't true. 60-90 days was the quoted time from the supplier, they haven't even shipped yet. Dont believe everything people say on the internet lol I bet we see them July, give or take but no one has an exact date for them.

Is the barrel the same as an AR barrel? What makes the handguard mounting proprietary to the receiver? If the barrel is the same and the receiver can be modified to accept 416 handguards, aftermarket barrels and piston systems might be able to be swapped onto it and make it really good because it sounds like the main problem with it is the gas system and QC of parts/assembly.

Part 2 of brigade Makasi take down

The Clip that holds the gas plug failed - I pulled the handguard the clip fell right off. But the spring pressure of the push rod will theoretically hold the plug in place against the gas block. Still - this is not well designed. Why put a small part there that doesn’t fit well and just come off? View attachment 1153107
The handguard and barrel nut design is a direct copy of HK 416 and therefore Giessele - but the handguard is not exactly lined up with the barrel nut channels, and the bolts got forced into the barrel nut channels at a slight angle - so a bit of tolerance issue here View attachment 1153112

Are you going to contact warranty to get these issues fixed? Would like to know if/how Brigade will resolve those issues.

I think people kinda misunderstood the problem with steel helico here, Let me say in again-

"he aluminum threadings for the two cross bolts in the handguard are passable without heli coil under normal circumstances. the main problem here is that the barrel nut cross bolt channels are not aligned- the factory assembler probably ran the power tool so he or she didn’t feel the “abnormal” resistance when the bolts were forced through the barrel nut material and into handguard- that is why there are metal powder and lots of “white” in the hole."

The steel insert and /or helico in the threads should be the standard if this is a government thing - but it is OK to go without. It is a NICE thing to have for commercial rifle but not LIFE or DEATH. Yes, probably not a good idea to take it on and off all the time just for the hell of it if you want to minimize any thread wearing out and accidents. Like you have to be careful and make sure it is lined up - it is not bomb proof assembling like a military rifle for the mass.

What you see in the picture is not the result of lack of helico -the holes and the barrel nut got a bit mingled and "whited" because the holes in the handle do not line up with the barrel nut channel. So the assembler forced the bolt into the barrel nut channel by power tool - the barrel nut is likely aluminium so the steel bolt just 'wedge" itself in and is force threaded into the barrel nut.

The "interference fit" is a feature, not a bug, its ment to reduce wobble in the handguard

Well we will see how this all shakes out I called and spoke with Brigade to gather information in regards to Spare parts availibility for Canadians and since then they have updated the store with a complete parts catalog for the MK-15 (probrably will have to use #####h to get them as I contacted Gravel and asked if they will also bring in parts kits and they said no) I still am confident that they aim to please the CDN market. I already ordered and recived my build kit from Brownells ( grip,trigger, muzzle brake etc.). Carmel on the way as well this is looking like a fun summer with the boys on crown land.
