Brigade Makasi MK15 We're back in business!!

The spring loaded dust cover flips upward. If the spring fails, the cover defaults to fall into the close position and blocks the ejection port. This is a major design choice weakness of this rifle.
I was thinking the same thing. I would just remove it, my days of being sent somewhere dusty are over.

I never thought of that. Neither have the designers I'll bet.

I did my part and preordered one from my local gun store. Little bit too late so mine might no arrive in the first shipment but it is ok.

Even The Makasi got banned before I have my hands on it, I will just hide it in my safe for a brighter future or even they ban all shipments coming in to Canada, I could just use the store credits to buy a new gun or bunch of ammo.

missed my chance to own a AR 15 and handguns and I have to accept the Straight-pull from MRA. The renegade is a good gun but it is not a semi-auto. Not anymore, Polys.

If anyone's interested in changing the OEM folding stock (it weighs 1.4lbs, more details at the end), here's what I'm doing:

Replacing with a folding aluminum stock!
I'm not affiliated with this YouTube channel or website/brand mentioned, just a regular dude who wanted a lighter package.

Since the Makasi MK-15 will take awhile to ship anyways, I can wait (1 month+) for my order to arrive from... China. I won't link the website but it rhymes with FixGemGem, here's my order below:

I spent a lot of time comparing different websites and products, and this was the best price I could find.

Note there will likely be some hidden costs once the items enter Canada (e.g. tariffs, tax). The stock brand is 5KU, which is the same brand from the video linked above.

I could be have gone a little lighter with the 5KU-327 instead, but I liked the look of the triangular one. Also, if needed, I can probably buy a rubber buttpad from Amazon to extend the LOP if needed. The rubber pad that comes with these is glued on so you can't easily increase the LOP, unless you get the 5KU-390, but this one doesn't accept the cheek risers (mentioned below).

I am not saying this is a "better" setup than just sticking with the OEM stock, but it is lighter. I intend on adding an LPVO + mount and I know know "just hit the gym bro" which is kinda valid, but I digress.

The cheek riser is designed for a few different stocks, including the one in the image above. Not sure if it'll even be necessary really, but it's a cheap option to avoid DIY solutions. Just make sure if you go for one of these stocks that it has the 2 holes drilled into the top to accept the cheek risers.

The adapters on all of these 5KU products appear to be the same, and can be setup to fold left or right. The ones I've mentioned here are a tad shorter than the OEM stock, so they shouldn't cover the charging handle. My only concern is the longevity and lockup of the folding adapter, however it is made of steel.

If you want an authentic alternative, you can find the real versions of these 5KU knock offs from Canadian retailers, but be prepared to spend at least 2.5x - 4x more. Again, my goal was to lower weight otherwise I would have just gone with the Magpul UCS. Also why I didn't opt to build some sort of AR buffer tube to folding pic-rail setup either.

MAKASI MK-15 OEM FOLDING STOCK DETAILS, AS PER IRG (who I'm assuming contacted the manufacturer or measured themselves):

- Adapter: 1913 Picatinny
- Mount Function: Folding, Left
- Stock Length W/ Adapter: 8-3/4”
- Stock Length W/O Adapter: 8-1/4”
- Stock Height: 4.5"
- Weight: 1.4 lb
- Mount Height: 1.77"
- Mount Width: 1.75"

Let me know what you guys think, thanks for reading!

I used "airsoft grade" folding frame / adapter for 9mm carbine and I can say that "airsoft grade" from a reputable airsoft maker was not subpar at all to some expensive brands that position themselves as "firearm accessories makers". I actually saw some "firearm" brands failing miserably. So unless it's government contract proven by years of service I consider "airsoft brands" as good as expensive commercial "firearms" brands.

P.S. I just checked and the one I used is also made by 5KU. This version is a) folding and b) allows you to slap your AR adjustable length stock.

I think that you have applied a logical approach combined with thorough comparative research to obtain a cost-effective and lighter-weight, side-folding Buttstock solution! Well done, with your rationale clearly explained.

Barring some fatal flaw with the lock-up mechanism, I will be sticking with the factory Buttstock for purely aesthetic reasons. Of all of the available options, to my eyes the factory Stock most closely resembles the original FN FAL side-folding Buttstock. As long as it locks up tight and can be reversed to fold to the Right side, I will save my $$ for something else like a decent LPVO with offset Red Dot for close range shots. If I absolutely must change out the Buttstock to get Right-folding, then I will take a close look at ACE's and LAGE's various FAL-like offerings.

My idea of a decent, cost-effective build goes something like this:

- Makasi Rifle, Canadian Variant, Buttstock reversed to Right-Side Folding

- EoTech Vudu 1-10x 28mm LPVO Primary Optic
- American Defense "Recon" 34mm QD Mount
- Vortex Defender Objective Scope Cap

- Holosun HS 507C Multi-Reticle Red Dot Sight
- 45-Degree Offset Mount w/ RMR Footprint

- Midwest Industries Folding Rear Sight
- Midwest Industries Folding Fore-Sight

- Streamlight TLR-1 HL White Light, 1000 Lumens
- Streamlight Pressure-Switch Cable

- Magpul Railed Vertical Fore-Grip
- Magpul RVG Polymer MLOK Picatinny Rail Section

- Ferro Concepts Slingster w/ 2x QD Sling Loops
- Modular Driven Technologies Anti-Rotation QD Sling Mount

- ERGO Picatinny Rail Covers - Black, Length cut to fit exposed Handguard and Receiver Rails

The makasi stock is one of the reason I preordered it. I think I will keep the stock and add a cheek raiser along with a red dot + magnifier for lighter build.

If you think for one second this won't be soon added to the prohib list you are dreaming. learnt my lesson buying and being prohibed a week or two later. Not to be the naysayer but I am amazed at the excitement on this board, you people dont seem to get it, anything NR or semi auto that has you this excited will simply show up on the prohib list overnight one night...sad but its the reality now!

maybe you are true. maybe you are not.

there are many Semiauto other than AR15 which are still legal to be bought and owned. I believe with your own experience, you could google them now.

they will ban all guns and won't stop at your butter knife so tbh I don't really care. I am at the age I could do 1-2 bad financial decisions without sending myself to the street. No one is forcing anyone to buy anything.

but if you are afraid that your money will be lost, Libtards will win. Easy.

Yeah I was debating this one but opted for a lighter setup. Since I'm relatively new, I don't have any AR stocks lying around to slap on, but definitely a good choice!

C'mon doomer, they're going to further censor the internet too but that doesn't stop us from posting, right? They're going to ban gas powered vehicles, did you sell yours and buy an EV already? Etc...

I am well aware of the situation and its probable outcome, thanks just the same. Possession is 9/10s however, and I happen to live in Alberta where we are not interested in playing the federal government's silly, pointless and expensive games. Once a Makasi is in my hands, all bets are off - the anti's can proclaim it prohibited until they're blue in the face and it won't make a lick of difference to me....

No sir.
It’s you that don’t get it.
No one is buying this rifle to plink at the range for years to come.

Use some deductive reasoning and you might connect the dots.

Ya there is a good chance that these will get banned but those who ordered don’t care
This release has generated some excitement and positivity into the forums which was severely lacking for a long time due to obvious reasons
It’s nice to see everyone positive and excited about this rather then the doom and gloom negativity that has been the norm lately

Didn't have the chance to own an AR before they got banned. This is my chance to own one. There is a lot of other people in my situation that feels the same.

Oh, boy. Nobody is dreaming. Everyone is at his/her own "no ####s given" stage. Why should we care, if government rewarded us for following the law with a label of criminals under temp parole? Social contract is broken. They wanted 2.4mil new criminals? They got 'em.
