"Bring Whatchya Got" match March 7

At an absolute minimum you would need a recognized holster course.
I would highly advise that you talk to other shooters at your club and see if there is a place you can be shown and practice some of the skills you will need to do this safely. I don't think that the place to learn is at a match during a course of fire.
There will be lots more matches this summer and you can get your feet wet then.
Welcome to exciting sport of multigun!

@Quackman:

There are many ways you can approach this! I will give you my story. Now looking back at it I would not change a bit and I believe I did the right thing. Well … maybe add something … like … “practice more” ???

Knew nothing about firearms; got my non restricted and restricted PAL (it was a package kind of deal … ) . Got a 870 shotgun (coz pumping sounds like fun … jk :) ) and put 5 shells down range. Now it seemed illogical to me to have a firearm and not knowing how to properly use it. I did not even know what sports I can get into at the time. Did some research on Internet and found TDSA shotgun course: http://www.tdsacanada.com/dynamic-shotgun-1 . After that course I was hooked. It is amazing what great instructors and 700+ shells down range in a day can do to you. Needless to say I went through ALL tdsa courses, in the proper order, starting pistol first then rifle.
Next step was black badge course that gives you the universal accepted holster qualification. Aside from allowing you to enjoy all the fun of IPSC matches, black badge is like a non-official stamp of approval for all the one, 2 or 3 gun matches. You do not practically need it except for IPSC organized matches though. If you are like me then you will get it so you can stop drooling about those pistol and shotgun matches.
To summarize:
-Not sure if you are a member of a gun club/range but you need to be for your att and practice.
-Do a course to nail down fundamentals. I do not believe in online courses in this sport. Not getting the fundamentals right develops bad techniques. That will translate in disappointment and a ton of work to break that bad muscle memory later.
-Practice
-Go to as many matches as you can afford
-Join a club with like-minded shooters with which you can train together

Did I mention practice?

Perfect thanks guys, I have a couple buddies that want in as well (they have RPAL as well). I was looking at the TDSA pistol course being offered at Silverdale which includes the holster certification which looks like it will be agood start. I just put a deposit on the CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow from Fishing World in Hamilton, $799 + HST! I am in the process of joining the Dunnville Club (10 min away) and will find out what they offer too. Hopefully I get everything in order and will be able to participate in some events! In the mean time can observers attend matches to see what its about?

After looking up some of the training and some videos on an event, yes looks like I'm not quite ready to jump into any competitions! Will work on it though, looks like a lot of fun! Gonna try to make it out to see one in action, will look you up tomo if I do!
