The last one I remember was in Vancouver..this is what I remember so details maybe slightly off...the badguy slashed a guard with a knife and took the loot....his partner lined up on the BG and shot him in the back of the head as he ran away down a sidewalk....
A couple years later in Nanaimo two guards were robbed in Costco by gunman with a sten....no shots fired in that one......
Are we suggesting that Guards should not be armed?????
If you’ll allow to correct you…… your facts are wrong.
I knew the messenger who shot the attacker, and the driver.
It was at Pacific Center, downtown Vancouver in the Fall of 1992.
As he was returning to, and entering the truck, the messenger was attacked from behind by an assailant with a knife. He was stabbed in the back of the neck a few times and had the knife dragged across his face. They scuffled briefly for the bag of money the messenger was carrying, and then the perp broke off the attack and started running away.
The driver got out and fired one shot that missed and went through a window. He then got back into the truck because technically he wasn't supposed to leave it.
The messenger chased the perp down the street shouting for him to stop. He fired one shot that hit the perp in the buttocks (but didn't stop him) and then fired a second shot that hit his assailant in the back of the head, killing him almost immediately. Apparently, he was twitching for a bit.
The VPD said it was a clean shoot and to leave him alone, but the Crown Counsel wanted to throw the book at him, saying he had used excessive force.
I was taking my firearms training in Kelowna when it happened, and had transferred to Vancouver and had worked with both guards involved prior to the trial.
If you want to see someone under stress, spend time with someone facing a murder rap a few weeks before they go to trial.
They broke him down on the stand, but he was eventually acquitted.
It did change our policy though, shotguns were pulled out of the trucks, and we could no longer drive around in un-armoured vehicles to do ATM repairs. They brought in the mandatory security guard course that everyone had to take, but I quit just before it was implemented.
I do agree with you though, they should not be doing the job unarmed, and the revolvers are obsolete.
