I always have had a keen interest in o/u rifles does anyone have any experience with these . I understand that they are not soldered barrels and that concerns me as to regulatin etc. I did look at one today just not sure if this is the way to go or to save my sheckles for the real deal???

I'd take a look at the Verney-Carron rifles offered by Trade-Ex. $3400 for an o/u in 9.3x74 seems pretty reasonable to me. I don't think that regulation is as touchy with a o/u as it is with a SxS.

I bought one in 8 x 57 R as I have my fixed bbl o/u BRNO in 9.3x74 (which I love)

Certainly not the quality of the old BRNOs... the receiver is not one piece cast for example. they are still a bit clunky and heavy for the caliber, but again, they appear to have only one size of receiver. It may be better suited to a larger caliber.

The scope mount also has moved American, in that instead of a sensible 11mm or 16mm rail like they used to have built in, they went to a cap screwed in mini weaver type rail - ugly.

The adjustable bbls work out very well. The little set screws are very finicky as you can well imagine. But with a little patience, I got it hitting say 1-2 inch groups at 100 yds with my handloads (220 gr Sierras at ... a good healthy velocity).

I dont view it as a tack driver, and like my other double rifles, know the limits of them, which has never stopped them from being some of the best rifles in the field I have ever used.

Given the time to play with it more, I think I can do better, but it is a very good gun... price vs. value is always debatable but I think it was worth the money.

BTW - I will not use a double rifle with a single trigger. Thechances of doubling get higher and the point of a double rifle is to be able to shoot a seconf bbl if the first one fails. If you need a recoil to set the second bbl (like many rifles) it is not for me.

Farshot Thanks for the review I am still not certain this is the route I will go I'm with you on the double triggers , the adjustable barrells is what i was mainly concerned with , I'm a fairly patient fellow and could probably get that to work out .Did you have any issues with things not staying where they were moved too ??

The set screws are small and opposing to each other... so they are finiky.
but once set, its been good. Its a good quick action truck gun...it appears not to have changed at all.
