Brno zg47 7x57 mm

My newest favorite rifle is my ZG-47. It started out as a .30-06 with a broken stock but is now a 9.3X62 in a new stock. Bill Leeper did the barrel swap. Part of the job was profiling the McGowan barrel blank to match the Brno profile and installing original banded iron sights from an unusable ZG barrel I had found.#

The Leupold VariX III 1.75-6 is mounted in QD rings from Alaska Arms LLC.#

Boomer, I intend on putting a NECG Ghost ring sight on this rifle. Can you tell me which front sight insert you used in your setup?

M98, nice looking rifle!

What height AA rings did you go with? Those ones look high? I went with a set of their low ones on a CZ550, although I did have to scallop the bolt handle to allow for clearance - something I haven't been able to do with my minty '06 which wears Talley screw locks, as does my 7x57, although the bolt is scalloped on that one as well... at least it's properly scalloped now, Dad took a chainsaw file (aaarrrrrggggghhh!!!) to it many years ago so it would clear the Parker Hale rings he had on it....

Also, what does the muzzle mike on that one?

Relax, I didn't say I was going to drill it, just that there is no way to mount a scope without doing just that...and obviously a lot of people thought you should mount a scope on these carbines, because a couple of years after it was made Brno modified the same action and came out with the zg47, with its integral scope mounts.

I know. Just a general comment to determine others with less fortitude than you.

The rings are mediums(0.4" high). Product description on their site is#CZ 1", Med, Lft Levers (CZ41LCZ41L). Their low rings are 0.3" high but based on some research I'd done, I figured they'd be too low. There is no way I was going to take a file to the bolt handle so as to provide clearance.

As it turned out, I have a .12" gap between the scope and handle.

The muzzle diameter is 0.615".

That is a rifle to be proud of, very nicely done by all involved.

Thanks M98, I think the 0.4" height is the same as Talley's one-size Brno/CZ rings. Yeah, the Lows would definitely need trimming of the bolt. AA's owner, Morris, has had good luck in the past getting the Lows to fit without trimming the bolt, but it does involve cutting the bolt handle off, removing about a 1/4" of material between the bolt and bolt handle, then welding the handle back on. One also has to trim the action for clearance where the bolt locks in the down position. I've seen some photos, and it looks VERY nice, and is all but invisible. Gives a guy options, anyway.

My only beef with the ZG47 is the bolt - it WILL NOT allow for a nice, low scope mount. I've always wanted to have one forged similar to that of a commercial FN mauser, but still keep the straight profile from the side. I think that would be the best of both worlds.
