If you attempt to spread the claw width on these rings so they slide onto the base easily, (this is done by inserting a flat screwdriver into the slot at the base) and PRY TOO MUCH, they will break as in the pic above. They are not designed to take stress in the outward direction.

Let me get this straight. A $70 set of rings with the addition of a $1 bolt is an extra added cost but a $150 set of rings is not an extra cost?

Lots of people have used the Burris rings for years with no issues. One failure and the haters come out in droves.

What car do you drive? I bet somewhere that vehicle has experienced a failure. You had better get rid of your car and buy a Rolls Royce because fixing a cheap car is just an unnecessary cost.

Similar to the Lee neck only collet die, these Burris rings are one of a kind and do their job for a good price. I'd love to spend more money on things like these to get beefier, nicer looking kit, but there just isn't anyone else who does it better.

When I first bought my Sig Zee rings, I looked at that weak point and shuttered. It doesn't take an engineer to figure out that is an accident waiting to happen.


Hopefully Burris will replace them for you. What calibre has it? Bending the metal back and forth also weakens it. Would you remove the rings often?

Hopefully Burris will replace them for you. What calibre has it? Bending the metal back and forth also weakens it. Would you remove the rings often?

I spoke to Burris and they will replace the rings as indicated in an earlier post. The rings were purchased about 4 years ago. They were first installed on my Rem 700 223 F/TR rifle with Nightforce 20 MOA base for approximately 2 years. They were removed once during this time to check the base screws tightness. They were transfered to my 308 Barnard F/TR rifle on a Barnard 17 MOA Base spring 2011. The rings were therefore installed and removed 3 times since new.

Rings definitely aren't over-built, but the fact that they can protect the finish on your scope is a real bonus.

You need to find a better machinist. At best that is a 30 min job. Even at top shop rates you are looking at maybe $50 extra cost.
