While cleaning my XD40 after the last range trip (ok, ok...after the last 3 range trips
), I noticed that the ejector was missing about 5mm's off of the tip. I have NO idea how long it's been like that, but the gun never missed a beat on the range. I suspect that it will continue to function without missing a beat.
However, there is a problem. I can't get a new ejector from anywhere. Springfield will not sell parts to ANYONE, you have to send the pistol to them for repair.
This is very problematic for Canadian XD owners, of course.
I contacted the business that sold the gun to me last week requesting assistance, but have not as of today received a response.
Breaking ejectors on the XD40 models is not uncommon, particularly on earlier models that were the first "rebadged" Springfield models. The cause of the ejector breaking was initially attributed to two reasons:
-People using modified Beretta mags which contacted the ejector on reloads, eventually breaking it.
-Inserting full mags on a reload with too much force, which caused the left mag feed lip to strike the ejector, eventually breaking it.
Closer examination reveals that the top round's rim in a full mag is the part that actually contacts the ejector. This area has been releaved on later model XD40's, so that the cartridge rim does not contact the ejector.
My gun is 3 years old has had approx. 3000 rounds through it.
IMO, Springfield should have issued a recall to repair these earlier guns.
