Brownells Order Being Held by CBSA - Told a 6 month to 1 year wait.

Just as a note,, i am still waiting on the stock to clear customs with no updates available for me. Well,, we are at the ten month point. Here's hoping it's only a year for it to arrive.

I got a similar reply about a backlog, but was also told on another call they were having some conflicting messages regarding what was prohib and what wasn't...so I'd love to know where that "conflicting" info is coming from, as it is in no way unclear.

I agree...it it most likely an effort to kill off our sport and hobby indirectly.

Parts for prohibited guns cannot be imported, or so I read on another thread a while ago. Assuming that is true, it doesn't seem too far out of left field for them to question imports of AR15 parts now that the AR15 itself is prohib. I'm not saying I agree with it or anything, just pointing out something that was brought up in a different thread back when the OIC was still relatively fresh.

Has anyone actually had AR15 parts seized, or are they just getting held up for stupidly long time periods?

Personally I don't ascribe to the idea that the entire Liberal party wants to destroy our sport. Yes, some like Pam Damoff certainly seem to want to do just that, but I think for most Liberal MPs the gun issue is a good wedge issue that helps them win elections, and destroying the sport will also destroy their ability to use gun owners as a pawn to win votes from the ignorant masses.

AR15s (lower receiver) and AR15 upper receivers. I didn't think there was anything beyond that?

The CBSA told me that they are backlogged mostly due to airsoft parts, because they fall into the same internal review (or were folded into the same reviewing scheme when the may 2020 legislation came out) as regular firearm parts. True? False? Doesn't matter. We are still waiting.

Can find the exact memo but public safety/bill blair sent one to the CBSA that very broadly implied all AR15 parts as prohibited parts instead of that AR15 uppers were now prohibited devices.

To my knowledge neither party bothered to correct this oversight.

Edit: article on the memo, still can't find a copy https://cssa-cila.org/bill-blair-get-your-ministerial-house-in-order/

Yep, that's pretty much what I expected...thanks for the link.

It shocks me that a govt agency (CBSA) doesn't have the ability to read the law itself, not does it appear to have its own lawyers to interpret the law for them. Why ANYONE would rely on legal advice from the RCMP is bonkers.

So, they've been directed to seize AR15 parts...my box of not-AR15 part included an AR15 part. I guess maybe a call to my own lawyers is in order. I really don't give 2 sh*ts about the $15 AR15 grip, but I want the rest of the shipment released, or documentation provided as to wtf is actually going on with it.

They only banned the guns, not the parts. However from what I was told you can't import parts for banned guns. So even though the gun parts aren't explicitly banned, their importation is defacto banned by the fact that it's a part for a prohibited gun.

I'll see if I can find more details on this/try to corroborate it.

No need! I found it I think...
CBSA Memo:
http s://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/dm-md/d19/d19-13-2-eng.html
Prohibited devices
General
46. A prohibited device is:

(a) any component or part of a weapon, or any accessory for use with a weapon that is prescribed to be a prohibited device (e.g. any device designed for the purpose of discharging cartridges in rapid succession, the upper receivers of M16, AR-10, AR-15 and M4 pattern firearms, bull-pup stocks, etc.)

Meanwhile, over here, in the law:
http s://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/sor-98-462/fulltext.html
In Part 4 Prohibited Devices...I don't see anything other than:

Other
4 The upper receiver of any firearm referred to in item 87 of Part 1 of this schedule.

The CBSA memo is extremely badly worded. It says precisely the same things as the text of the law, but it makes it ambiguous as to whether they are referring to "an accessory for use with a weapon" that has been prescribed prohibited (which is the case I believe), or it could be read as an accessory that can be used with a "weapon that is prescribed to be a prohibited device" (which, I think is how CBSA is currently interpreting things).

The first interpretation would be limited to only those things actually prescribed. The second is completely open-ended, and would mean a huge swath of things currently for sale would be prohib.

If you think the entire liberal party is NOT out to destroy the shooting sports industry, you are being WILLFULLY ignorant.

I am currently in the same situation. Order #1 is a Magpul stock 13 weeks ago. Order #2 is a buffer tube and comp 9 weeks ago. Has anybody gotten a refund on their orders and if so how?
Or what is the number to call at CBSA?

Well i should have known this was going to happen. I filed a formal complaint through the CBSA website and received a call today stating that I would be receiving a letter in the next 4 to 7 business days and that my response is required. Basically they are saying that my arfx skeleton stock which i bought for my shotgun is a prohibited device. I asked the agent why it was not allowed into the country as it is a stock, it is not a prohibited device and it is for sale uncontrolled within the Canadian market at this time. She said that she could not answer any of my questions and that I had to respond to the letter. So i guess my lawyer will be called out of sheer principal and not for my $99 US stock. What a massive waste of time and money. Oh well,, our hard earned tax dollars at work. I will update people when I receive my letter.

Next time when you order from Brownells make the "Ship To" addressee to: RCMP Testing Division. Followed by your address.

Just make sure you register a proprietorship in your name under Real Crispy Meat Pies Testing Division.

Problem solved lol.
You mean "piggy pie" testing division

Any update?

and they wonder why so much stuff is just brought in undeclared right under their noses every day.it's because of CBSA stupidity like this, they're just sticking it to us because they can't stop more than 1% of what's coming in,
