Browning A Bolt

I have a couple of A-Bolt II's in the safe right now. Both are as accurate as any production rifle I have seen. I also owned an original A-Bolt and hated the ##### with all my heart. While it was accurate you never knew when it would either fail to strip a cartridge out of the mag or pop one out and stove-pipe. Browning knew there was a problem with the feeding which is why they brought out the second version.

The hybrid magazine setup is an acquired taste. The design does keep crap out of the action and there is no worry about accidently loosing a magazine while walking in the bush. It is also allows easy top-feeding through the ejection port if for some reason you need to load another cartridge in a hurry.

I must be very lucky as every A-Bolt I have shot had a pretty decent trigger on it.
 
I have had a few A bolts and still do . I have a 300 wsm shoots good new trigger spring made it shoot little better . Great hunting rifle nice and light with Power .
 
I really liked the Medallion that I used to have. The short bolt throw was one of my favorite parts. The trigger was excellent as was most everything else. The magazine was a just a step above a regular hinged plate design though. I traded straight up for a new Sako though and I'm still not sure which one I prefer.
 
Abolt Medallion 7mmwsm / Boss. Will tune any bullet to shoot under moa.
The Boss system and mag clip put these Brownings miles ahead of the Remingtons.:)
 
My go-to for 20 years, in .280 Remington. I like the mag system, but that's me. I really like the short bolt lift, the HIUGE clearance between bolt handle and scope, and the safety position.
It is way more than MOA accurate, as well.
 
I have an ABolt Medallion in 30.06 and is it my go to rifle when the weather is good. (Savage 116 rebarreled to 280 is my bad weather go to). I also own a custom Ruger Mk II in 7X57 which I like but it's heavy and a Winnie in 7MM mag which isn't very accurate (3-4 in @ 100) plus several others, but I really like carrying and shooting the Browning, the action is very smooth, the trigger is quite good, it isn't too heavy, and it is very accurate. Basically, you pays your money and you takes your choice.

I feel the same way about the magazine. You've seen the nice wood stocked 30-06 A Bolt in my locker that belongs to my grandson. He loves it and when I mentioned about the mag he said it works fine.
I have only shot the rifle at the range, using it single shot, but he has shot something like six or seven deer with it, so I respect his views of the magazine.
 
I had one in 270 win', but found it really light. accurate as hell. Would keep 5 shots inside of 1/2 inch all day long. I sold it for more than twice what i paid for it. Would not think twice about getting another if had the chance. Price is the only obstacle. $1000 is not what i would call cheap. Also the mag system works just fine. It works the way it was intended. Just the floorplate has to be opened to get the mag out. You can't drop a mag or lose it so i say for what it is worth if you ever dropped a clip on the ground and had to spend 20 minutes looking for it it is more than worth it.

I have several box-stock 700 Remingtons that will shoot any bullet under moa WITHOUT that ugly abortion of a boss hanging on the end of the barrel.
Miles ahead....I don't think so. :rolleyes:

If the Abolts "mag-clip" is "miles ahead" of Remingtons than an HR Handi-Rifle is freaking galaxies ahead of them all.

As much as I despise A-Borts, they shoot. I've shot a couple more than a few and all managed sub-moa with ease.




But what rifle doesn't?

Exactly my thoughts, mines in 7 mag, my dad gave it to me when I turned 14 and now it has 22 years and probably 30 or so deer on it, if all my rifles were as accurate as it I'd be thrilled. Love the mag and safety, did the trigger with a brownells kit.
 
My A-Bolt is top notch. It's balanced and shoots where I aim it. The action is smooth and feed reasonably well. The magazine setup is one of the coolest features on the gun. I'll keep mine till I die or lose my left hand.
