Hi everyone, I have a Browning Abolt Mountain Ti in 7mm wsm that I struggle to shoot 1 MOA groups with. I really like the cartridge and the gun, but would like to get it shooting better. I have experimented with multiple different factory loads and reloads with little improvement. The barrel is relatively short (22") and light for a magnum, so I am contemplating changing it out to a longer, heavier, match grade barrel to hopefully help reduce recoil and muzzle jump, and improve accuracy. I have no experience with modifying firearms, so I am just looking for any input regarding this. Am I on the right track? Is this something that can be done with this rifle? If so, what factors need to be considered in choosing a different barrel? Thanks in advance.

I have barreled many A Bolts... only had one stainless receiver that galled the threads on barrel removal. I simply threaded the action slightly larger before fitting a new barrel to it. I happen to have a 7mm WSM reamer.

How much the stock can be enlarged limits how large a barrel you can install.

Thanks Dennis. You actually did the trigger adjustment on this rifle for me a few years ago, and as well I believe you have rebarrelled a couple of the Tis from 243 to 6.5 creed for a friend of mine. Do you have any specific recommendations on barrel contours that would fit? I think the creeds you did were benchmarks from Bighorn?... Im thinking of going heavy enough to flute, and an inch or two longer to get a bit more velocity... maybe get a detachable muzzle brake?.. Its all pretty much Greek to me so any and all input is once again appreciated.
Cheers.

You will have to look at the stock with the action in it... and then measure how much larger a barrel would fit every inch from the action forward... You can ask Gary to have Benchmark custom turn a barrel or get factory contour close to what you want and have your gunsmith finish it as best possible. I could measure for you.

Fluting is more cosmetic than weight reduction... and if you want recoil reduction the weight helps...
