So I inherited a Browning Auto5 and a Remington Sportsman 48, both probably close to circa 1950. Took them skeet shooting and duck hunting 30 years ago. Had a buddy take me out skeet shooting again, and turns out that I can still hit something. He says we should go for ducks. As you all know, I can't put steel through these guns. I'm thinking that I should try and sell them and get a newer one that can. Don't imagine that the Remington is worth much, but the Browning is a nice looking gun. I see the Browning going from anywhere from $400 to $800 if not more. How's a fella to know what is fair?

3'' vent rib mag A5 90% condition maybe$400- $450 lesser condition devalues. 2 3/4'' plain bbl 80% condition $250.00-$300 A5 light weight modified choke vent rib 2 3/4'' $ 350. Japan made with screw in chokes vent rib 3'' mag. $600-$800.

Use the smallest steel shot that will do the job, say #4 steel over decoys, and you should be fine. Your alternative is the expensive specialty loads (bismuth or tungsten matrix). But if you are a capable shot, and shoot ONLY at birds you know can hit, then the price won't be too dear.

Do give us more info on the guns to better assess them.
