I know there are probably more threads somewhat related to this issue. But what kind of accuracy at say 100 yards are most of you BLR owners getting? And what caliber/configurations are you using?

Thanks for now.

BLR's are usually a crap shoot for accuracy... my .243 is easily MOA with its preferred handload... my .308's are 1-2 MOA... had a .22/250 that sucked with everything that went through it (sold with full disclosure)... and a 7mm-08 that is currently at 3 MOA but is still in the load development stage... JME...

Hoytcanon did you always have to handload to get that kind of accuracy out of that .243 did you ever come across a factory load it liked? Which model is it the pistol grip style or the strait grip '81 with the barrel band? Made in Japan or Belgium?

Belgium straight grip... it has never had a factory load through it, so I can't comment on which might shoot well... but I could PM the load if you want...

The first one that hit the store at Barotto Sports in the late 60's was a .243. One of the owners had me mount a scope on it, gave me a box of CIL 100 grain and told me to go shoot it... it shot under an inch. He kept it.

Well, mine is much better than my Savage 111 in 338LM!!!

Honestly though , without a ton of peeing around it prints 1 to 1.25 MOA groups @ 100 yards, mind you this is 3 shot groups , not long string of F class shooting. It is however a hunting rifle.

I am very impressed with mine with hand loads, it is a 7WSM, pretty much my favorite rifle right now.

Long range shot on a target , no problem, if the shooter can do it!!

Both my 284 and 358 shoot 3 shots hovering around an inch with my handloads. Mine is the steel receiver 81. They both seem to prefer heavier bullets though....160 in 284 and 225-250 in 358. Also after 2 shots the barrel walks a bit and will open up the group an inch if you don't let it cool down enough between shots....thin barrels.
The first two usually near touch.

im looking at getting a 7mm08 blr does someone have one ???? and what kind of accuracy do you get with it .?????? thanks oilman ., ps im going to reload my own so that will make a difference .???? right ???

My pre81 blr from Japan would consistently get 1.5 inch groups. Not a tack driver but it killed alot of moose.

I did reload for mine and didn't really shrink the group much from factory loads, but i did find alot of loads that shot worse.

I reload for my daughter-in-law's BLR 7-08 and got sub-MOA with 120 gr NBT's and H4895 with reduced loads:

I got it second hand for her and was happy to see it had a 3 lb trigger which sure makes it easier.

I took mine out yesterday - hadn't been touched since last Season - 10 months ago - Federal 150 gr Soft Point @ 100 meters - the 1st mag (4 shots) needed some scope-tinkering. The next 4 were good enough for me (that's a 1-inch bulls-eye)..... ;)

It's an '81 lightweight takedown, straight grip:

Generally 1-1.5" groups at 100 yards. However, just tested a max load of h4895 ( Hodgdon data) with 150 g etips at 2840 fps that printed 4 into .9". Hope my chrony was off as that velocity suggest slightly over safe pressures (I really on velocity rather than case indicators). I'm expecting max velocities 2810's given that max velocities with 24" barrel is 2893 fps.
Varget with 165 partitions giving me 1.15.1.30" groups at 2680 fps velocities.
