I relized that I need another hunting rifle the other day while hunting on my quad.
So I have narrowed it down to a Stainless BLR in 7mm or .300 WSM.

Are these reliable guns? Does the magazine pop out easy? How accurate are they?
Any info on these rifles would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Blr

Have had 3 BLR's all in .308 Win. First two were the earlier versions with the stick out mag the last was the flush mag model. All very slick & handy. Rotary bolt locks up nice. Found on all three that the first two shots off the bench would touch but the third was always a slight flyer likely because the thin barrel had heated up.

Blr 308

I had one in 308 with a cut down barrel to 18" and it worked well for me. I never had any issues with the mags either.

Only problem I can see you having is if you ever need or care to take out the bolt you need to really watch how you put the rack and pinion gears back together.

If you are off by one tooth either way you will either get eradic firing as the bolt will lock up too far back and not have enough energy to ignite the cartridge all the time. Too far forward and it will not engage the grip safety. That was on my older model not sure if it's the same with the newer ones.

In our gang we had three of these jump action gears, and go out of time the same season rendering them useless. I flogged mine as soon as I got it back from repairs, and don't plan on getting another.

blr is a very reliable and fast all around hunting and truck gun, i like the older flush magazine models, i have shot a number of deer and moose with the .308s and a few mulies and coyotes with the .243, all great guns ,,wade

I've had blr's my entire hunting life(plus a few bolts, and pump shotguns), 6 different calbers, 4 in the cabinet right now, one going moose hunting in 2 wks.
I've Never even heard of anyone having any kind of problem with one.

This gear thing, was someone playing home gunsmith or something? Cause I have never heard anything like that.

I'm obviously biased, but you just can't go wrong with a browning.

All new guns, not ever tampered with!!

I have had very good luck with the BARs, so I have no bias towards Browning, juts the the BLR.

Were they older or newer models?

All newer models with steel reciever/flush mount mag.

I have a .223 BLR with the pistol grip. I can group good, but my buddy can almost go hole for hole at 100yds.
Get the pistol grip stock, if it comes in stainless.
They have a really nice set of iron sights as well.

The GOOD, is light weight, they point nice, just nice to sling and carry and a repeater. good sights, and mounts a scope well.

BAD, well as mentioned wheel action gears go (seen one myself 358) they are not tac drivers in the big calibers... and the trigger is the worst in the world with a sloppy 20 lbs pull lol!

But lots of guys use them with alot of success, just not my type of rig.

Bought a 30-06 pistol grip-take down last winter. New glass sighted in and ready to go. Here moosie, moosie, moosie! Loves it!

I love my BLR 81 the trigger on it is no precision thing but for a hunting rifle it works well. not to much creep and it has a crisp break to it. Never had any issues with the gearing either although i have not nor do i intend to attempt a dissassembly. Also they dont give MOA type groups but 3" to 4" at 100 when im dicking around is the general sizing with factory ammo also, and ive used my .308 out to 300m and gotten 8-10" groups which i feel is pretty good. I would definately recommend the BLR. Only issue i've had is with one of the mags sometimes the cartridges pop out all together and jam the thing up. Its a PITA but i doesnt happen often and i feel its more the mag than the gun.

the triggers are not as bad as I let on, but I like mine at 2-3 Lbs, no creep...

They really are a decent hunting rig as well. Lots of guys in our camp use them, each and every year
