Browning BLR

I've owned two in .308 and one in .243 all three were good rifles. I would like to get another soon. A great bush gun! Light well balanced and I've always loved the look! You should buy one. You'll be glad you did!

Dave.

I Just got a new one in 308 (pistol grip). It was an insurance replacement of an old 99 lost in a fire.

I think they are a top notch hunting rifle.

The more I have played with it, the more I think a BLR in 7-08 would be a great hunting rifle for my dauther when she is old enough.

I just sold one to one of the finest gunnutz on this board!;) :)

Can you answer a question then??

How noticeable is the difference between the recoil of the two calibres with the BLR?

Mind you, I am in no hurry, my girl is only 10, but a fella needs time for these things. She takes after her dad though and is a slight thing  and I think recoil will be a big issue for her.

To tell you the truth, I never fired it as it was actually a gun that I sold for my father. I have fired 7mm-08's before in bolt actions and I find there to be a difference in recoil but very little as opposed to the 308.

Purchased one in .30-06 Sprg a few weeks ago. Pretty accurate and, like most levers, alot of fun to shoot. I was thinking of buying a Winchester .405 Win (Teddy Roosevelt's favourite lever action rifle), but I'm already reloading for enough different calibres.
I've heard that the BLR in .358 Win is a superb woods gun.

I have owned the BLR in .308 (multiple) .243 & .358. Some pre' 81' and other BLR 81's. They all shot very well, and were lovely to carry. I don't currently own one, but now after reading "Deckerheads" post I want one in .22-250!!! :)

Regarding recoil, it's a light rifle, in 30-06 it borders on hateful.
Absolutely. I've fired several in 308 and find them unpleasant for recoil and loud. I shoot my 338 win mag regularly and don't find it as bad. Sighted in my cousins 30/06 blr made in the 90s. That thing has a hockey puck for a "recoil" pad. One shot off the bench in a t-shirt will start a bruise.
Some guys love them. I find them muzzle light, poor triggers and disassembly is a bugger. Seen a few shoot extremely well, many just adequate and more then a few were a major headache in the accuracy department. That's been my experience with Blr's.

They sure are purdy!!

19 Year old thread, but these rifles are much older than that... 1977 to be exact, in .308 and .358.
