So
I’ve got this Browning gold
Chambered in 3 1/2 inch
I really like this model
It fits me perfectly
So I was having issues with it not cycling
So I ordered a new action spring
Found out the one that was in it was 1 1/2 inch shorter than the new one
Well that cured the issue for a while
But now once it’s colder it still has no issues with 3 inch ammunition
But it will not cycle the 3 1/2 it won’t close up to fire them
It’s not every time
But about every second or 3rd round
I bought a new for arm o ring at the same time but it seems to be to tight and I can’t slide the forearm
over it
I’m hoping this is the issue thinking maybe I got one from western gun part for a 20 gauge
I ordered two more from western gun parts and talked to them about it
They told me they checked their bin
In case some got mixed up but assured me that wasn’t the case
Comparing the old o ring to the the new one the new one is definitely smaller diameter then the old one
Once the new one’s arrive
I’m going to try one hopefully that’s my issue
If it isn’t
What else could it be ??
Or are these fair weather guns only ??
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
I am a fanatic about how clean I keep my chamber and action
So I know it’s not a cleaning issue either
Thanks in advance

I've had and used a Browning Gold 3 1/2" for fifteen years and it happily digests anything I put in it, from 3 1/2" roman candles down to super light 1 ounce reloads. In your cleaning be sure that you don't have a carbon build up on the gas piston and that your gas port(s) is clean and unobstructed. Good gun, if you can't fix it I'll buy it from you cheap as a project.

My buddy had one that was a single shot. I took it and cleaned out the gas ports and its been flawless since. Looked like cutting oil and grease from the factory. The piston was pretty gummy. Pipe cleaners q tips and g96 now its a champ except the camo finish flaking off

It's dirty. Dirty as the girl that got me over my ex. You need to knock the trigger group out and clean out all the powder flakes that will have it gummed up. Brake cleaner is your friend. The first time I took mine apart after it started balking like you described, I was shocked at the amount of powder fouling in the action.

I would say dirty as well ,had one for 9 years kept it religously clean (had an 1100 remington before) never missed a beat.

Buy some carbon cleaner and pour some in a cup and soak the gas piston in it for a few minutes, give it a clean with tooth brush and small pipe cleaners. Soak again if it isn't cleaning easy.

My Brownibg maxus always shoot 3.5" loads no problem but it will sometimes not close the action with 2 3/4 #4 soon as i clean it it works again no problem. I try to clean every 500 shots now but I bet I went 1000 before problem started again this time.

i did that with brake cleaner and I used an air compressor to blow out any and all micro flakes , actually 3 times over just to make sure

Well it could something more in depth. Had a Beretta 301 semi, would not cycle and was a jamamatic several trips to the gunsmith and money spent finally had to move it on to some other poor guy. That gun made me shy away from Italian firearms for many years. Hard to diagnose on the chat board but if its clean and still problematic there is something internal I would guess..

Well -If I understand your post, the gun fails to fully put a shell into battery? If that is the case, the spring that closes the bolt is not doing its job. This is a fairly common problem on semis, and can be remedied by replacing the spring.

like I stated I replaced the recoil spring or as its called action spring with a brand new one
I cleaned it spotless even blew out the fine particles with an air compressor
non of these are the issue
what I have found is it doesn't like Kent fast steel ammunition at all
and only likes a few brands of ammo
like Winchester & Remington, some brands of federal & definitely doesn't like black cloud either
anything else it wont cycle after -10C
so I'm thinking I got a gun that's prejudice against some makes and brands of certain ammunition

Hmm that is not uncommon and my Cynergy Browning has an issue with Kent steel as well (will not extract) and its an o/u .My ljutic hates winchester super targets so there may be some truth in that.
