Browning Hi-Power Grease or Oil?

I knew a guy that lubed all his guns with any motor oil he had in the garage. He figured that if it defeated high heat and engine dirt as a detergent, it could handle gun crud. Worked for him. Cheap like borscht compared to "gun oils" in little bottles.

"If it slides, grease it. If it rolls, oil it."

Classic advice that has stood the test of time.

Most handguns require very little lubrication,

This is important too. SMALL amounts of both grease and oil in the appropriate locations, just a touch or two at most.

I run my guns wet and I found I had less issues. I don't clean till about 500rds.

500 rounds? That's excessive maintenance in my house. Any modern centerfire handgun will run 1000+ rounds with no issues without needing a cleaning. Rimfire is a lot dirtier, mine need a cleaning usually at 500-600 rounds.

Was it me lol probably not - Mobil1 5W30 Synthetic in the car and guns.

+1 on the synthetic lubes. I use synthetic grease (~$7 a tube at CT) and synthetic oil on my guns and they work in any weather without gumming up or attracting a lot of dirt.
