Try to find an FN-branded one (rather than Browning-branded) if you can. It's the exact same gun but for some reason it usually costs less. I bought my .40 from TSE for $699, but that was about a year ago.Any retailer in Canada stand out for having the lowest prices on these?
Thanks in advance.
Like I said, they are the same gun. All hi-powers are made by FN and built at the same factory, by the same people, finished to the same spec, etc. Guns that are stamped with the Browning logo are destined for the American and Canadian markets, while guns carrying the FN Herstal logo go to various overseas markets. That sounds like a pretty darn good price, Capp. Thanks for the tip.
I really don't understand the difference between FN-branded and Browning-branded. Can anyone give me the two minute lesson?
Hi-Power frames are made in Belgium, not Portugal. The only thing done in Portugal is final assembly. All machining and finishing is done in Belgium. Newer hi-powers actually have better fit and finish because they are made with CNC machinery, which leaves less room for human error and allows for greater consistency.Have you thought about buying used on CGN? A browing or fn usually comes up for sale once a week or 2 weeks. I have 2 of the older HP models from the 70's. I had a chance to handle the newer ones at the gun stores, ones with frame made in portugal. overall they looked all right but on one, the adjustable sights sat so high on the side you could slip two business card thickness into the gap. The fixed sight ones appeared more consistent as to quality and fit.
Practical has a two tone finish (chrome frame and black slide). Yours is a Silver Chrome model. This is the bugger that I'm picking up off another fellow CGN member. It's a Mk3 Practical, assembled in Portugal.
