Browning Hi Power in 9mm

Any retailer in Canada stand out for having the lowest prices on these?

Thanks in advance.
Try to find an FN-branded one (rather than Browning-branded) if you can. It's the exact same gun but for some reason it usually costs less. I bought my .40 from TSE for $699, but that was about a year ago.

That sounds like a pretty darn good price, Capp. Thanks for the tip.

I really don't understand the difference between FN-branded and Browning-branded. Can anyone give me the two minute lesson?

Like I said, they are the same gun. All hi-powers are made by FN and built at the same factory, by the same people, finished to the same spec, etc. Guns that are stamped with the Browning logo are destined for the American and Canadian markets, while guns carrying the FN Herstal logo go to various overseas markets.

As you may know, Browning is not a manufacturing company and does not actually build any of the guns it sells. It is a 100% owned subsidiary of FN and acts as a North American importer of various FN and third-party outsourced products. Up until the turn of the century, Browning had exclusive rights to sell hi-powers in North America. To make things a little more complicated, a few years ago FN decided to start selling hi-powers under its own name. For a brief period of time, both FN and Browning-stamped guns were available on the North American market. It seems that FN has recently decided to grant Browning exclusive rights once again, but you should still be able to find a NIB FN if you look around.

Have you thought about buying used on CGN? A browing or fn usually comes up for sale once a week or 2 weeks. I have 2 of the older HP models from the 70's. I had a chance to handle the newer ones at the gun stores, ones with frame made in portugal. overall they looked all right but on one, the adjustable sights sat so high on the side you could slip two business card thickness into the gap. The fixed sight ones appeared more consistent as to quality and fit.

personally i prefer adj sights and reg blue finish, but depending on your personal preference in sights, finish or grip material, the price new or used, will vary.. the expensive part is getting mags for the hp, which is still at least $35 up to $50 retail. keep checking CGN EE. have fun shopping.

To add to that.
There are some people who think that the guns marked "Assembled in Portugal" are somehow inferior for some reason. They are all built in the same factory as Capps said but sent out for assembly. If there was an issue I have faith that FN would address it as they have a reputation at stake.

The same with Mecgar mags that people turn their noses up at. They make all FN HP mags now and many other name brands have their mags done there.

Hi-Power frames are made in Belgium, not Portugal. The only thing done in Portugal is final assembly. All machining and finishing is done in Belgium. Newer hi-powers actually have better fit and finish because they are made with CNC machinery, which leaves less room for human error and allows for greater consistency.

This is the bugger that I'm picking up off another fellow CGN member. It's a Mk3 Practical, assembled in Portugal. Awesome looking gun...and a decent price to boot (much cheaper than retail, that's for damn sure). silly paperwork taking so long...

Back to Judge Vandelay's question, since I'm interested as well. Can anybody recommend a decent retailer?

With respect to JohnKwok's suggestion, I think it's a good one. Unfortunately, the hi-powers don't come up that often on the EE. I've been hoping to spot one but no luck so far.
