This is not the fancier grade rifle.

Any idea of what this may be worth.

It has been hunted, sling swivel studs added. The bore is immaculate. The metal about 95% +, the wood some handling/hunting dings.

No, it is original except for the swivel studs... I think the fancier grade is a collectible, I think this is a semi collectible shooter...

Without pics ?? usually see them at gun shows around 1200 and up..
24" standard grade with dovetail sights....900-1100..

With sling swivels and less than perfect condition, I would say $1000 to $1200. Sling swivels are cool but no longer collectible.

I recently bid up to $1000 for a real nice one at a local gun auction, the other bidder took it for $1050. I was offered to buy one at the last Brandon Gun Show for $1200. but I didn't. Maybe shoulda, yep for sure, I should have! and I recently saw one on the EE advertised for $1800. and the next thing I saw, it was marked SPF. So, with dings etc, I'd say somewhere slightly under a thou.

Saw that, $1800 for a standard 71. There is no accounting for what some guys will pay for a certain gun if they happen to have a severe desire to get one. To me the only 71's worth that kind of money are deluxe rifles in excellent shape or 71 carbines, which are scarce.

Have a pair of carbines, one was used and the other new in the box, paid 1200 for each of them.

Only 3000 model 71 grade 1 rifles and 4000 grade 1 carbines were made in 86-87... and all were sold by 1990....

I don't know what is so rare about carbines?

That one for $1800 that recently sold was overpriced but to be fair it was nearly new in the box. It came with original box and papers as well. I agree that only carbines and deluxe models should fetch that type of cash though. Then again, I have seen them for much higher. Seems the consensus on this one is that it is worth around $1000, which I think is a fair assessment. They sure are nice guns but I don't think I could ever shell out over $1000 for one.

Having participated in several gun shows over the years I have say that prices of Browning 71s and original Winchesters going out the doors are unbelieveable.
I do concur that a gun show is not necessarily the best place to get a deal, but $ 2000 + for a Browning is a bit much, sort of like $ 3500 + for an original 71.... but they do sell.
