Hey guys I have a browning sweet sixteen that my father gave me..I can shoot slugs with it,but I was wondering if its safe for steel shot,or were can I find over non toxic shells? The barrel says Montreal,St. Louis on it.. Thanx..

Browning doesn't recommend that you use steel shot at all in the older A5's, unless it's a Miroku built gun (steel shot safe) or you've bought a newer replacement barrel. You can buy some good non-tox shells that will be safe to shoot, but on top of the hefty price tag for those 'designer' shells, you'll pay even more for the 16g stuff. IMO, you've got a great little, and highly sought after semi there, so stick with lead and use it for upland hunting. Find something else to shoot steel with. BTW, got any pics of it?

I have two A-5 Sweet Sixteens and a Citori 16ga. all three love Kents Tungsten Matrix and knock down geese with ease! You'll love the A-5!

Thanks for the reply's guy's,pic's will come up soon. Were do you get the kent shells from??Do Ellwood Epps have them??I've shot lead already and it shots great,It has a mod. barrel on it

The 16 gauge is not a waterfowl gun nowadays.
Since the advent of steel shot the 12's and 10's are king.
But don't despair a Browning Sweet 16 is a classic upland gun and is better suited to grouse, pheasant etc.

Here is a pic a promised..I found out it was made in 1962.Shoots great I think its a smooth bore 20inch barrel

A5 16's are somewhat popular in the US. I would not reccomend shooting steel through any Belgian A5. Check out "16 gauge society" as there is plenty of talk about Sweet 16's there.
