BRSC Benchrest Nationals - Regina

Is it too late?

Just found out about this Benchrest shoot - I live nearby and would like to give it a try. Is it too late to register? If good to go is there someone I can contact by phone as I have a few questions regarding all that is required. Thanks
Claude

Well

practice was a tough go today. Pretty strong winds from the west northwest. Sounds like they should be a little bit calmer tommorrow which will make things a bit more enjoyable. Definately tough to know today whether or not your rifle was in tune. Everybody was having a tough go but the best part it was everyone.

No, was not too late!

Well, it was last minute, but was able to take in my first Bench Rest competition - it was what I was hoping it would be, fun and informative.
As soon as I arrived I was welcomed with open arms and treated like part of their family. I quickly found that not only are bench rest shooters meticulous to detail (anal:) they are extremely friendly and open to help you out in any way they can.
The only thing missing was more people like myself there. This would not only be beneficial to promote the sport of Bench Rest shooting but would have promoted the competitive edge required to strive for continuous improvement – yes I am competitive and no I was not in their class of accuracy. Tough when you’re the only one using standard gopher gun equipment.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Robert Seemann for letting me use one of his rifles for one agg – it certainly raised the excitement of competition and was real eye opening to know how truly accurate these rifles are and how wind does play a major role in being consistent.
In closing, for you that have yet to take in a bench rest competition – take the plunge, you will not regret it. Oh, and don’t forget to bring someone you know with you so you can kick there butt in the process.
Cheers Claude

Claude, it was great to meet you. Glad you had a good time. I'll post up some photos and a match report as soon as I can. Got home last night at 1:00 so have some catching up to do.

Rick

It was

nice to see Claude at the match for the first time as well as Mike from Lethbridge.

NICE RIFLE MIKE. Mike just started shooting his 6PPC after going to the US to personally pick it up from his builder and shoot it for the first time at the Super Shoot held at Kelby's range in Ohio. He did it right, right from the start, no holds barred. He kicked my butt. I think he will be a force to be reckoned with in the VERY NEAR future.

There were a few spectators but Claude decided to take the plunge even if it was with his 221 Fireball and 204 in a TC. We tried to get him to buy the one he shot for 1 agg but I know in time he will be there at the line with us. Sweet rifles to shoot arn't they Mike????

I even learned a few valuable things myself. I got to meet more of the Alberta shooters for the first time along with one of the Sask shooters who I had never met. It was the best shoot yet that I had attended. Way to go Doug and Maxine. Buy the way Maxine is one (H E double hockeysticks) of a shooter herself and the only woman that I know that can bring men to tears by kicking there butts.

Everybody has information to share even when it comes to competing against one another. Be it problems with firearm, loading, and more importantly the WIND and which condition to shoot in. It was tough. I have never met a first class bunch of shooters like the ones I shoot with.

Can't wait to see some of them again in 2 weeks at Selkirk and 4 weeks in Calgary.

Though I shot poorly I had a ball. And the steak supper was awesome! Max had home baked goodies every day! The door prizes were first rate and I managed to come home with;
100 Lapua Brass from Hirsch Precision
500 Opel Bullets from Dan Opel
1000 patches from Plenty O patches

Others won Lapua bullets( Hirsch Precision ), a Chronograph (Selkirk Range)
200.00 gift certificate ( Ted Gaillard ) Everyone got a Leupold scope cover from Korth Group.
Big thanks to all donors. It means a lot to BRSC and the competitors and will gaurantee that I and many others will be supporting these folks.

I had a great time. Thank you to everybody for being there. Thanks to the sponsors. Thanks to Doug, Max and the kids for organizing the match. Thanks to Dan O for sharing your bench, flags and wind reading techniques.

I loved the shooting, loved the social time, Awesome.
We have some first rate shooters in Canada.

Looking forward to the Alberta provincials in September.

Mike

Here's a pic of 2nd day early morning, before the 200 yard shoot. Where the men are separated from the boys.

Tony, Mike

you guys hit the nail on the head.

It was an awesome time. I to struggled shooting but did a lot better at 200 Sunday.
The entire group that was there was the best anyone could ask for. I like to feel I have met a new family of friends who all share a passion for the same thing the ultimate in rifle accuracy.
I can't wait to see the Alberta gang in September.

Wayne Miller . that's a blast from the past in my memory ... the name is familiar. Has he been shooting a long time...?

Yes he has. Wayne was there at the beginning so to speak. I guess it would be 30+ years. A fierce competitor. We are lucky to have him to shoot with! He shot that .189 at 200 over on the other post.

Sounds like everyone had a great time. I've booked time off for the Labour Day shoot in Calgary , hope to see some old friends and meet some new ones. Is there any other B.C. shooters going to Calgary in Sept ? maybe some F class shooters that want to try BR

Well anyone wanting to see the whole gammit of BR would do well to be there for the Rail gun shoot on sunday. Hirsch Precision among others have been kind enough to donate towards this match as well. Some nice prizes will be drawn for!!!!

Yea Calvin haven't shot in a competive match since 2002 at Tacoma , have to thank Rick for getting me cranked up about shooting again. Looking forward to meeting you too,and seeing Wayne Miller also and he has been around longer than dirt.

Awesome Tony.

Maybe I can win something............ in the draws that is.

I plan on giving my Sporter a crack against the Rails at 200 on Sunday.:confused:

Not sure why but I do not get to shoot a whole lot at 200 unless in a match situation. It would be great trigger time and by the sounds of it Rosebud is a challenge in futility.
