actually aluminum does not dissolve in the process if not zincatated, the problem is as soon as its degreased and pulled out of the hot tank it starts to tarnish immediately and thus the nickel will not bond. Also copper plating can be used as a strike coat to nickel plate onto. However I can say with a great deal of certainty once aluminum is plated chemical stripping is out of the question - The aluminum dissolves like alkaseltzer and all you have is a chome carcass left over, you must reverse plate alloys to remove plating.
