What is this BSA rifle worth? The calibre is 270.

The scope is an ancient (in my young eyes) Leupold 4x. I don't even know what it is. Could you tell me anything about the feed type and any other interesting information.

I would certainly give $400 for it, if I just wanted a .270 Winchester. If the seller asked $500, I'd start thinking how much better is this than a new Savage package rifle or Stevens 200, unless I particularly wanted a BSA.

For some reason, the market price that good used BSA rifles sell for, is less than one would think, when comparing with other rifles. I advertised this one in 30-06, long and hard, starting out at $450, later coming down. As I remember, I had it on the EE for 375. and eventually selling it for 350, without the scope, but with rings, to a fellow that came right to my house, so no messing around with shipping.
By the way, the fellow that bought it is a grizzly bear guide! So that tells us something about what a grizzly guide wants for a rifle and that he has faith in the BSA.
A couple of years ago I bought a very similar BSA, for about the same price, for a grand son.

They are heads and shoulders above the Savage rifles when it comes to quality.

As pointed out by H4831 a lot of buyers don't know what they are looking at when they see a BSA sporting rifle all of which were 100% hand-made.

To the original poster, your rifle would probably fetch about $425.00 which is a lot less than the quality is worth.

BSA's are underrated and sell for much less than there worth! They compare to Husky's in quality and workmanship, and have the great mauser action. They are far superior to ANY new punch-pressed new gun 550 or less! This gun with older but quality Leu is worth 550-575 all day long.

I agree with most of this but unlike the cheaper Parker Hale rifles the BSA designed sporter rifles were not built on a Mauser action. What they are is a BSA designed action that they referred to as an "Improved Mauser type design" The trigger, bolt, and safety of all BSA models were quite different than that found on a Mauser and after the "Royal" series was discountinued in the very early 1960's they also lost the full-length extractor and controlled round feed that was copied from the Mauser.

...

Yes, but when the price starts to pull away from a basic Savage or a Stevens, the buyer should think about whether they want to pay extra for head and shoulders above, or do they want to save money and have something that is quite good enough.

If I could afford it, I'd like the BSA, but that's just me.

Just getting back to the original poster in this thread. What model is that 270 BSA. I need to get some parts for my father in law's 30-06 and it looks exactly like that 270 but has no model designation-makes it tough when parts suppliers ask you what kind it is. Any help would be appreciated. I specifically need the safety lever that you push with your thumb since the detent on his is worn off and the safety can disengage very easily-not a very good design and currently is not safe to carry in the field.

i have one in a 308 very lite and well made better than my rem. win. savage.and ruger just have to tune the trigger it has been around me for 25 years a lot of guns have gone.

The original poster's picture is of a BSA Monarch.

I love BSA, would take the workmanship and quality over the mass produced modern stuff.
I paid $350 for a 30-06 twin to what you have there. Well worth it!
