Bubba strikes again... Opinions welcome.

Fill up with black epoxy, sand down to stock, veneer over entire cheek piece, sand down again, refinish.

This is actually the best alternative I've heard yet. Although it would be difficult to get a veneer the same colour tone as the rest of the stock. Although it could be done... Straight black stain would look decent.

I'm still going to try the clear epoxy over the badge first though. It seems easier and doesn't require refinishing the whole stock. But if it looks like shart I might go this route.

Make ahh CGN Beever Mahdallyun and gitt'er'in thar.
Find a bigg'un old historical coin and replace it with that.
Boar a hole rite tru and router the edges round.
Then yewse gartzs a hanging hole.
Oh wait, the t.p. will fawl awff the bawrell.

Lol. Hadn't thought of a TP hanger. Id love to do the CGN Beaver, but I don't have one hangin around here...

I went for option 2.

Picked up some clear epoxy, bedded the badge with JB Kwik, masked it off, cleaned up the edges of the engraving then applied the clear resin. I used a torch to remove the bubbles and once it was tacky I removed the excess and took the tape off. I then used a piece of cardboard soaked with mineral spirits backed by a sanding block to smooth it out to the contour of the stock. Then used a wood stir stick to remove any "overflow" around the edge, and smoothed out with the solvent soaked cardboard again.

I'm pretty happy with the result honestly. It's smooth and very flush with the stock, and it's clear as glass. I wouldn't have done this to my stock intentionally, but I feel like this was the simplest remedy to having a pronounced badge grinding against my cheek under recoil.

Thanks, I think it was certainly the easiest option. Took me less than an hour and turned out better than I expected. Any other option would have required refinishing the stock, and I get terribly obsessive when I'm refinishing wood, or anything for that matter. It would have been a week long project.

Looks good, well done! Is that a pinned flash hider at the muzzle?

It's funny you ask as I was just looking at it wondering what's holding it on there lol. Its actually a short muzzle brake, and It's pinned.. Although I suspect it's either a super tight fit or there is some epoxy under it as it's super duper tight on there.

I'd do this, it's easier then it sounds. Or just fill the hole, file flush, and refinish just the cheek piece. Don't listen to the guys who are worried about how it'll look; it's a freakin' SKS in an aftermarket stock, not a Purdey, Rigby, or pre '64 Model 70.

You must have missed it. Look up near the top of page 3.

Looks great. I would have suggested leaving it altogether unless it grinds a layer of skin off your face when you shoot it! :)

That thought certainly crossed my mind. But it was quite proud on the stock, and really rough feeling on the cheek. It just annoyed me honestly. At least now that it's flush and encased in resin it looks sort of like it's meant to be there, and not quite as "bubba'd". Though still bubba... Just more tastefully bubba'd.
