Budget Cuts?

I met with a local Militia CO last night and he feels there will be some drastic cutbacks. Afghanistan cost a lot more than anticipated and the money to pay for it has to come from somewhere.

The olympics are sucking up mega cash according to a friend of mine who was on Shilo. So much so that they suspended all extra projects there.

CFSAC is on for 5-18 Sep 10. Budget doom and gloom is just rumour until the Fiscal Year is over. Not every budget in the CF is going to suffer just because Afghanistan or the Olympics run over cost, it just does not work like that. If fact some units with well prepared forward planning lists and well managed budgets have benefited greatly this year from being underspent.:dancingbanana:

As for the Western Area team there will be no ATS targets, thats why we need to come to Wx or Chilliwack. Wx sux but its better wind practice there.

Dumb question for you guys going to Wainwright to train... any room for some Rangers to practice out there if we make the trip from the north?

Just curious because we don't have any military style ranges to practice on, and some are stuck practicing on a 100 or 200 meter range...

I had thought it might help out the regional camaraderie!

That was the recommendation from last year but its up to both Ranger and LFWA HQ to approve. I would love to see the Rangers down for it.

Some of us actully like Wainwright! Granted it is not the lush green of Volkes range but it'll due. Not to mention, we can slide over to my house for cool beverages after a day on the range. Beers are on longshot on gunnerlove.....hehe:sniper:

How about you guys train up there and the reserve team will train in Chilliwack? That way we can all go home at night.

Chilliwack is first choice for venue but from an area perspective (the guys paying the bill) 3x 16 man teams and sp staff is about 50 troops. How many of those are from lower mainland? How well is ASU able to support cost effectively? Catering and staying at PRTC is expensive and it will likely come down to money available.

makes Wainwright look like a good choice.

Edmonton could work using the Passchendale range, but it does not have the firing berms. Or use the ATS but set up targets if you want berms. R&Q are an issue, well just that there are no quarters, and no you can't set up mod in my back yard :p

Wainwright will depend on how busy they are. I don't mind the quarters ;) now that they have the Yukon lodges built.

only problem I see is that if I go I would end up working on a bunch of issues there that need sorting.
