Budget optics for a moose rifle?

IMO - "Budget", i.e. low end & Optics aren't the best of freinds. Again, IMO...bracing for impact..!

I think it would be a good idea to give us some more info as to where you intend to Moose hunt. Will it be in thick, dense forest/bush or in open clear-cuts? That will have a big impact on your decision as if your expected shooting range will be under 75yards in thick dense bush Vs 500 yards, you'll need two quite different pieces.

As it was recommended in an earlier post, you would be MUCH better serve with spending $700 on a used scope than $700 on a new scope.

Good luck with your search.

By coincidence there are two leupold vx 2's 3-9x40 in excellent shape listed in the ee for under 300 by a reputable seller, psst psst, shameless plug If you want even better there is an excellent leupold VX 3 1.5-5 for under $400 , that just might be listed by the same seller in the EE. ME. Honestly these scopes meet your criteria and are half the price of new and work exactly the same. Buying used leupolds is the best way to spend your optic money in my opinion as they have the lifetime warranty you can use.

For the price you cannot beat a used leupold.

That depends on the price.

Another vote for the Leupold VX-111 in 1.5 x 5. I have had one for many years works excellant in all conditions. A great quality work horse scope.

The 1.5 is perfect for close in work with a wide field of view for close range. Most fella's put to high a magnification of scope on there rifles and then when Mr. Moose is only standing 30 feet away all you can see is brown hair and you can't even tell what end you looking at.

yah another vote for lower range power ,mines a bushnell or B&L? 1.5 - 4.5 on a 338 ,

glad it was too when the elk came in 20ft from me , but thats my bush/moose rifle I like my B&L 3x9's too
