Think you'll find a BNIB GP for $750ish in Newfoundland? Had one since they first came to Canada 30 some years ago. Fits short hands well. Shoots better than I ever will. Stronger than any other revolver. Very easy to do a trigger job on. All new firearms need a trigger job due to frivolous U.S. law suits. Repeatedly dry firing, while good training, is not a trigger job.
Llama is gone. No parts if you ever need 'em. Poor man's copy of Smith's too.
 
If you're looking for a 4.2" barrel get a Ruger SP-101 .357, with 10 pound hammer spring and 8 pound trigger return spring and shims on the hammer, you've got a beautiful smooth revolver that's perfectly sized and balanced. If you're after a 6" target revolver you can't go wrong with the Ruger GP-100, with the same mods that will cost you a grand total of $15. Solid, dependable, and well built revolvers!

Ruger...if new. By preference a used smith, either an -86 or a 27. I'd avoid the SP101. Even with work the trigger will never be as light as the other two, and if you want to run 357 in it...well it's not the most comfortable unit. I've seen 4.2 686's on sale occasionally at 795$....(plus tax) but it should be easy to find a new ruger in that price range.

My Sp 101 is very comfy to shoot even with full trottle 357 load, the trigger while being heavier than my Smiths in DA and SA break clean and it make this revolver an accurate shooter, it will be feed a diet of 148 gr HSWC 38 Spl, this is a lovely round ( bought 3K of those rounds, should be good for the season)...
There is still a pretty good deal going on at CSC they go for 675.00 + the works, mine just cost me 710.00 to my door... JP.
 
Look for a used S&W 686/586.
If you are ok with just 38 spec. I would go for a model 10 (s&w)

I got both my 686 and my comp model 10 for 600-800 used off of EE. Just wait for the right one to come along

You can never go wrong with a s&w.
I also find out of my 357mag I shoot only 38 spec. Only time I shoot 357 is through my Deagle. I think most people would agree with that comment so don't hesitate on 38 spec only....
 
With the Hogue grips the SP-101 is great to shoot .357 out of...and you really need to get rid of the factory grips anyway, I like to put my pinkie on the grip. As far as the action goes, with the lighter springs and the hammer shims, along with a quick polish of the parts while I had them out, the Ruger SP-101 is now a world class revolver. It's night and day compared to stock...I doubt anyone saying anything negative about them after the mods has actually played with one. If Ruger put out the GP-100 and SP-101 in versions with the lighter springs, polished internals, and hammer shims, they'd sell a lot of them...even at a premium over the standard models!
