Budget scope recommendation for CZ 527 in 7.62x39

I have two "made in japan" tasco scopes, fixed 2.5 and a fixed 4. Both very nice scopes for the price and age. I have them on a 303br and also semi 22rf. Personally for the price they are awesome, unless you like all the cool features the other scopes can have. But 10 to 200m they work great.

CGN first for me...

Buy once cry once, get Nightforce, Tangent Theta, or at the minimum Swarovski... Anything less will explode killing you, your family, everyone your family has spoken to, and 300 random kittens in the presence of 6 year old girls around the world...

Try Nikon, I have never heard anything bad about their glass.

Nikon has some pretty bad QC lately. I seen a guy at the range a few days ago with a Prostaff that wouldn’t focus. He also had a Monarch that wouldn’t hold zero. Obviously Nikon doesn’t look at the scopes they ship.

I just went through this ordeal with my 527 (.223). Mounting most optics requires that you have the objective lense behind the rear sight. I ended up going with a Leupold VX2 Ultralight. It just barely fits nice behind the rear sight. Be careful of having something where the scope ends up being too far back.A straight tube scope would work nicely.

Also I would recommend you buy something half decent and not a PST. Ive had 3 PST’s, none of them tracked and one wouldn’t hold zero.

Are you sure it wasn't the user? I've heard very few reports of issues with nikon, so to have two in one place at the same time seems quite peculiar...

I wasn’t there to see the Monarch but the guy was printing pretty decent groups so I tended to believe him.

As for the Prostaff it was definitely screwed. I played with it for a bit and there wasn’t any way of getting a clear picture. Kinda speaks volumes to Nikons QC program if they apparently don’t do any kind of inspection before they package it up.

Disagree with your QC comment. I have approx 2 dozen different models of Nikon scopes including the lower end Prostaff series. I have yet to have an issue. Did you contact Nikon about the issue?

He asked for budget scope recommendations so you start with a $1,800 optic...

Yes. Budget is simply a specific amount of money over a specific period of time. Save more money per period of time or increase the amount of time. Furthermore, adjust your priorities in life and you can afford most things. Lay off the beer, cigarettes, other expensive hobbies, eating out etc. If quality gear and shooting are a priority you will make it one financially as well. Setting a very low budget for optics is simply saying "I don't care about my gear or my performance, I just want a complete rifle setup, good or bad."

In all honesty you don't need an $1800 optic. That being said, a budget of $200-$300 will not get you a quality optic. Keep in mind that optics are removable which gives you ability to move the optic to another rifle, sell it, or simply swap them out as needed.

Yeah my range is max 200m which is probably maxing out the 39X round right? If I hunt or backwoods target shoot with it I doubt I would go past 100m.

Is it this one by any chance?

200 yards is nowhere near maxing out the 7.62x39 cartridge. If you were hunting deer then yes, if you're hunting varmints or paper no.

Or remove the rear sight, perhaps replace it with a folding version.

Sounds like this guy might be tightening those rings too much and slightly crushing the tubes? Ask him if he tightens it until it strips, and then backs off 1/4 turn.

I'm not 100% sure I thought mine was called the diamondback, it was bought last spring 2017. Bushnell has some good rebates 30%off in March may be worth getting a Bushnell in 2-7x30-40. Exactly my thinking while the 7.62x39 could probably take deer at 300m I cannot say that I could effectively hit something at 300m with it. For this reason i keep this round within 150m for effective use. If i am in a possition with a shot over 150m i go for my 8mm, even then I can't think of a spot where a shot could be greater than 300m.

That's exactly how you mount a scope....duh..

Plenty of people out there without torque wrenches...

Not necessary, torque until you hear something strange or pull a muscle.
