You can do this for fun or whenever the opportunity arises or count your score and see how you compare with other fly shooters :)

Competition Rules & Scoring:

2 Classes:

Hardcore (iron sight only)

Open (optical sights)

As horseman2 suggested we can count #of splats/#of holes *(distance/50yards) *100

Example: You have 3 splats / 4 holes at 25 yards, then your score = 3/4*(25/50) * 100= 37.5
If you have 2 splats/5 holes at 100 yards, then you score = 2/5*(100/50)*100 = 80

So you are rewarded for shooting at a further distance.

You do have to post your whole target, not just a portion of course.

I will start off with my 1st ever.

I'm sure lots of people have done the same.

So Post your target, rifle used, ammo used, and at what distance.

Ammo used for the fly Winchester Target.

For some reason my guns seem to like different ammo on different days, on the target all groups were shot with Federal 22LR except the group on the bottom left, which was Winchester Target. And the fly was hit with the same ammo as well.

Great thread. :D I've been doing this the past year. I set targets at 50 and 100 yds., smear on some soda pop or chocolate bar and wait for the flies to show up. Nice hot summer days were best, in between shooting groups a fly would land and automatically it would be the next target. The 50 yard ones are easy to hit but the 100 yard ones were tricky. Never thought to take any pics though, I'll remember that for next year.

I had it happen once by chance with some 25 meter pistol targets when I had some guests along. They got a good kick out of it, and decided they never wanted to mess around with me. :p

Good idea for a thread .

I recently shot a big horsefly on the target at 50 m , no pics though :(

I've never tried this or heard of it before but you can bet I'll be trying it next summer when it's warm. My dad and I are always looking for different and challenging targets.

This could make for an interesting competition.
Bait might be a problem but rotting flesh does attract flies, but anything sticky would help.
Scoring would consist of number of bullet holes divided by the number of hits.
Since my target shows two bullet holes with only one real "Splatter" it might be scored as a "2".
The trick would be to space your hits.
When I shot that target on Monday, there were 6 hits but not all were attracted to the target.
Let me know when rules are established. Baiting will have to be permitted.
