And what lenght CA barrel is that?

The .308 cal barrel is 18" long. It is CF wrapped around a stainless match barrel with a 1-10 twist, that has been turned down to minimal thickness on a lathe. The way that the CF is wrapped around the barrel dictates whether the material will conduct heat away from the barrel or will insulate the stainless bore. Obviously, Christensen lays the CF so that it will conduct heat away from the steel bore ASAP. I have certainly noticed that the CF barrel cools to the touch much faster than barrel steel of an equivalent profile.

I prefer rings without nuts protruding out the side to snag on stuff.

Ive hunted with that rig, You know what I got hung up on ? the 18.5" inch barrel ! Not once did the nuts get in the way or have been an issue on any of my rifles ! and the turrets stick out further that the nuts on scopes.

Thanks, I’ve got a 20 inch enroute.
Just trying to get and idea of what it’s gonna look like with a 15 handguard:)

I’ve owned a Proof Research CFW,and that stayed cool as well.

By chance, have you ever measured the barrel?

Lots of nice but expensive rigs. What would you guys get if you were to put together a budget gun?

No experience with this platform other than shooting them.

Mine will be fairly budget but also appeals more to me than these tricked out carbon rifles.

A2 stock
A2 flash hider
Brownells BCG
Stag 10 rifle buffer system
Basic mil spec CH

I cant decide between two barrels that I currently am eyeing and also haven't decided if I'll go with a drop in rifle length handguard to complete the a2 look or if I will put a modern free float on yet.

Will use whatever trigger the receiver set comes with for now to simply throw some lead down range.

That's about as budget as it gets but if it turns out like I believe it will then it should look pretty sweet.

Missing a couple of small, but crucial items.

I am still waiting for proof carbon wraps have been made to work.

Not sure what "proof" you are looking for, but my Christensen Arms CA-10 with CF-wrapped stainless match Barrel has performed exactly as advertised. The rifle functions 100%, fulfills the factory waranteed accuracy standard of sub-MOA with factory match ammo, and the Barrel seems to conduct heat rapidly from the stainless liner to the atmosphere, becoming cool to the touch far faster than any steel barrel of equivalent heavy profile. The weight savings between the barrel and CF handguard are phenomenal. The only complaint that I have with the CF stuff is the cost. I would never want to pay full-price for a new example. I lucked out and paid a little more than half of the MSRP for my (then) minty CA-10 on our very own EE.

My concern is in the construction of the Carbon fibre wrap.
My understanding of Carbon fibre on it's own is that it is a fantastic insulator, which would not be conducive to it helping the barrel to dissipate heat (quite the opposite). Combined with other elements (like graphite I think?) and it could out perform copper.

I have a ruger Mk IV with a sleeved steel/aluminum barrel that seems to perform well, but it's a little apples/oranges comparison.
For the rate of wear on a match SS barrel in .308, I don't think these barrels are worth the cost quite just yet when they are over double the cost of a comparable quality conventional one. They sure look cool though, so for CGN street cred., I can see why they are all the rage.

I don’t think it’s the cool factor, but more to do with the weight saving.
You get the benifit of a heavy barrel at half the weight.
That’s why I got one ordered,anyway.
I’ve had the opportunity to use the CFW barrels, and they worked as advertised.
At least I think they did, barrel didn’t feel hot and was not spitting out flyers.

Also mine cost me $700 CAD, so not nearly double.
