building a 500 Jeffery. P14

I wish i could have had a camera on the ground where you were hitting there are craters about 10 inches around from each shot and mud flew like 25 feet into the air
pretty awsome power

Cool build.

I see some convert P14s to typical magnum cartridges as bolt does not require alteration. Swap a p17 magazine and spin up a 308 norma mag barrel...almost sounds easy...

I only have one round left now. So when i find some dies ill get a video of me shooting some stuff.

Ill try and see if any of the dies i have now will neck size the brass so i can load them up again

Thanks guys I didn't realize that, in theory that would open up some options but now looking into it everywhere is sold out in the states, I can get them out of the UK for 550 Canadian or Australia for 500 Canadian plus shipping. out of the states they would be around 250 USD (+/- $50) and that id reluctantly pay if I had to but still by they time they get to my door they would be 350-400 Canadian and id still need to buy a bigger press to take the larger body dies.

damn shooting a 500 Jeffery is expensive lol I built the rifle for less then $600

Edit I just found this place, anyone ever order from them? they have the best prices.

Huntingtons was the RCBS dies custom shop for a long time. I am not sure if they still are but they are a very reputable business. I have purchased from them a few times but not lately. Huntington is the last name of the RCBS founder.

so I'm thinking for relaoding this I'm just going to use Hodgdon 777 FFg as I just picked up 5 pounds of it for less then 25$ a pound, so I defiantly don't mind burning it compared to smokeless now a days.

I filled the case with a drop tube and also flicked the case a few times to settle it and I would be able to get 110gr by WEIGHT (141gr calculated volume (based on 77.7 weight is 100 volume)) in the case to where the bullet sits, without compressing it, just touching it.

so I'm thinking that will probably give me around 1800fps and using those velocities I can run cast bullets with gas checks.

and lets face it a 600gr bullet at even 1800 fps is still going to fun to blast stuff with, its just 400fps shy of the factory load.

Well these finally made it to me. I ordered them on June 9. Just got them a few days ago. Now I need to get a single stage press to drill and tap for the 1" dies.

I have a P-14 (303) I’d love to get rid of, and a P-17 I’d love to build on. If someone can line up a couple barrels I’d gladly donate the P-14. Ears milled off typical sported guns

I’d go for a 458WM though, or maybe a 375HH

If anyone is keen for a P-14 and actually wants to do something similar shoot me a PM!!!

I ended up buying a cheap lee press off the EE for $40. That I'll drill and tap for my bigger die bodies

I only brought one press to BC with me. My "lock n load' Hornady classic.

I left my ProJector, lee classic and a lee classic turret. I have limited gear here.

And guys SHHHHH haha. I had to build this 500 because before I finished my 460 weatherby it went prohib. It was sad as I was just finishing up and installed the sights. It just needed to blue the barrel.

So I build the 500 as it isn't prohib and I like big bore boomers.

This thread inspired me to do something with the old M17 that was grandpas. It was a .311-308 Norma and no one really wanted to bother with it.

I got it on a lathe today and tried that trick mentioned where you cut a notch in the barrel right near the action. Holy heck it worked good. Spun the action off the barrel with one hand and no wrench

Awesome man. That's the best part of this thread. I hope you make something cool with it.

When I started this build, well my 460 build initially (before that went down the drain with the oic) was to show with a little work you can have these large big bores on the cheap. The ammo and dies are the killer haha
