Building AR-15 or just Buy Norinco M4?

LOL this thread is funny. I wonder if Canadians in Afghanistan wonder if they are getting shot at with a Chinese AK or a Russian AK. I don't think it matters.

The Norinco goes bang and its accurate. Hell you could take on an ERT team with one....for cheap. J/K

Hell, doesn't even matter if no one will sell to them, they'll just MAKE ak47's... look at Pakistan's little cottage industry. Fully functional AK's made in mud huts with hammers, punches, 70's lathes, and old tank armor.

No less American manufacturing equipment!!!!

The Chinese are a great people. Thank you China. Love your women and I love your god damn electronics. Us Canadians thank you for your electronic and firearm contributions.

I'm the OP of this thread and my plastic finally arrived. I think Epps sold out on M4s. :-( They had 7 but now only show 4 that are sold... the other 3 are not even on the list. Oh well... I'll be heading up there any way to look at their goodies. I hope they have one at least for me to look at. I'll just mail order one from somewhere else.

Another new Black Rifle guy joins the fold - the single best thing Norinco (and China for that matter) has done for Canada

Keep in mind that a Norinco variant cannot be taken to the U.S.A. - PERIOD. NEVER EVER - while virtually any other brand of lower may be included on a Form 6NIA.

(Do you care? I don't know, but it's relevant to me.)

I dunno... I never thought about taking any firearms into the US due to all the paperwork. Let's just say I do want to take a restricted into the US. I read I'll need to verify with club over in the US in order for CFO to issue ATT.

That said, I really don't plan to shoot at a club, more like in the Arizona desert with restricted. But I suppose, but I don't know, once I arrange ATT and venture in the US where there are virtually no gun laws in some states, I'm free to whatever I want to do?

I played with the Norinco M4 today. I didn't get excited. LOL! It feels kinda cheap to me. I don't remember the name of AR15 I handled in Arizona, but that didn't feel cheap. Oh well... I ended up buying a hinge and pump action shotgun today and Czech surplus ammo for Russian SKS that should be getting soon. :)

If you guys haven't checked out the store right behind Epps, check it out if you're into older firearms. Very cool place and people. I actually missed it the first time around. I saw it going south and had to make a U-turn. I have to go back again.

My understanding is that once you have the approved paperwork from the BATFE (form 6) the CFO will issue a border ATT.

Its actually much easier than you might think

Turn right onto street called Gun Club Lane. That red brick house with big white letters that says something like "Coins, Stamps, Guns". Can't miss it but I did and lots and lots of people have. I read the coins and stamps, but missed the gun part. Tons of shotguns and rifles and some handguns.

I actually enjoy going in that store than I do Epps!

I'm studying their catalog to see what I want next. :)

I haven't encountered anyone talking about this place so far. It is a great shop. Epps great for restricted... Non-restricted goes to them, IMO! There are lots of other nick nacks that I do want to pick up for my gun room/slash closet. LOL!

I was so excited about the M4 until I picked it up. :-( Wasn't what I expected. I think I hyped myself up too much and was semi let down. Hahaha...

And stupid me, I forgot to ask to see the Norinco M213.

Dude, it's an M4 (all the ones from any maker I've handled felt like M4's)

Maybe it was too light. I dunno.. Only handled AR15's (briefly) twice in my life. I need to pick up a non-Chinese brand again and make sure before plunking down that much dough on one. But I probably will have my own AR one day... Maybe it'll still be Norinco. :)

I have never picked up an AR in my life either but today I checked them out. I first handled the Norinco than tried another one that looked identical but cost almost 2x as much. I don't recall the name (Bushmaster?) but I was amazed just how similar the two were besides the price of course. They were almost clones in every aspect. Try comparing the Norinco with a brand name AR and you will see just how much alike they are.

Probably what makes the AR's feel cheap is that they are so light. I had expected them to have some weight to them like most regular rifles but was surprised just how light they were.

They're supposed to be light. If you have an AR variant that weighs the same as an AK, or other all wood & steel, there is something very obviously wrong. Either it isn't a real AR or it's simply loaded with so much extra useless sh!t it's weight is doubled.

Likewise, when it comes it any firearm it's not much different than, say, a brand of shoes or brand of computers. Some are overpriced, but most usually you get what you pay for. If you want quality, expect to put in a little extra but if you just want something good enough to shoot, go for the caterer of the lowest bidder. Or, if the commercial standard of ARs are well out of your budget at least you'd be lucky enough to acquire one regardless.
