Building my first AR

Patt08- I got my lower from a small shop out by where I live called gretch outdoors,

I am definitely leaning towards building a 5.56, and then in the future looking into a complete 7.62 upper. From what ive read its a bit of a pain in the a$$ trying to trouble shoot the 7.62, and me not having any experience doesn't sound like a good idea. Also IRG and dlask seem to be the only companies that I can find with lpk's. Is there any companies I should stay away from? I wanted to get a Daniel Defense lpk but does it really matter? Is there much of a difference from cmmg to dlask to dpms to dd???

The LPK won't make a huge difference as long as it's quality. I've used DD, CMMG, DPMS. Palmetto State, and Dlask. They're all fine.

Canadian Tactical Cowboy Supply is usually my goto supplier, but they're dry right now...

Beetle Outdoor has the CMMG kit for $99 http://www.beetleoutdoorsupply.com/products/ar-15-lower-parts-kit-cmmg-standard and Saskatoon Gunworks has DPMS for $110 http://www.saskatoongunworks.com/dpms-ar15-lower-parts-kit/dp/378. I've bought off both in the past and they were good to go.

Hey I'm sure this has been asked hundreds of times on CGN but what's the best Canadian stores to get ar parts and accessories? I just built my first ar and I'm addicted to dressing it up and making it my own.

Most of the OEM mil spec LPK's are all very similar. The custom trigger sets is when there are considerable differences.

Very nice!!! I am waiting on a dlask lpk to come, next is a buffer assembled then the hard part, what barrel length, what rail? What optic lol decisions decisions!!

Hard part?! More like fun part!

I didn't catch what you plan to do with the rifle but if I would look at 14-16.5" barrels. I would have gone with the 14.5" if I didn't have access to the longer ranges here in Alberta. Shorties (10 inchish..) are fun but obnoxiously loud!

Anywho.. CTC Supplies is now partnered up with Rainier Arms so lots of options there. You pay Rainier advertised USD price plus $30 Canadian flat rate import fee.

I'm with you on that. WAY too many options. Do I want a long or short barrel? Long or short gas system? Pinned FSB, or low pro gas block? Free floated rail or drop in hand guards? Keymod or M-Lok? Quad rail?! MUZZLE DEVICE??!!?! WHERE DOES THE MADNESS END?!?!?

I am thinking 14.5 inch barrel with low pro gas block and a Troy alpha rail. Also I would like to eventually do some cqb matches or some 2 and 3 gun shoots, anything to get out have a blast, shoot with like minded people and learn lots. I've been waiting a few years to get into an ar so it's veeeeeery hard not to max the credit card and buy everything now!!! I am waiting on a dlask lpk and I'll post a few photos when it's all together!
