My dad was thinking off getting a vest for IPSC or IPDA shooting. The vest would just protect from richocettes?

Anyone have one for this reason?

Are you serious, if recoches were an issue IPSC shoots would be ended, here in Qc they told us no more steel plates because of 'possible' richochet risks. I have never seen anybody with body armor, most wear polo shirts or t-shirts.

at best, I would recommend long pants & sleeves, is in some indoor ranges,
you could get nicked & cut skin, some blood, but not serious injuries.

though, the other night at indoor ipsc match, one guy did get a nice scrape & small cut in the forearm. if it slid across his neck instead of his arm...?

o.k... add turtle necks to that

If I was on a range I would feel uneasy with someone wearing a vest.

I doubt you would be able to wear that at an IPSC match for fear of the wingnut association.

D_

Please no armoured vests!!!! As people would see this as a safety issue and wonder how safe the sports are?? When in fact there should be no richochets if targets are properly placed and steel targets, where used are in good condition and proper safety distances and shroulds are used.

At most matches they hand out those Lexan bullet proof riot shields.. it sort of makes mag changes a hassle, but you get use to it.

Cause its better to be safe then sorry right?

I understand a someone on this board was lucky enough to be wearing a vest on the range when they were hit by a bullet never mind a riccochet.

If your dad wants to wear it, he should wear it.

As soon as I can afford it I will be buying one.

If I see anybody wearing a bullet resistant vest in an IPSC match, or any shooting match. unless they are LE and wearing their duty gear, I would stay away from them as these guys are certified nutbars who forgot to take their medication.

 :runaway: I am not sure I understand this comment? "Certified nutbars"???
If you don't want to wear a vest FOR WHATEVER REASON, that ofcourse, is up to you. But to make generalised statements like this kinda sounds a little odd to me. As mentioned above, there is very little chance of richochets hurting anyone, but what does it matter to anyone else if someone wears a vest or not?

occasionally LE and CO will shoot wearing their duty equipment which includes the vest. This is cool by anybody's standards

I used to go shooting with some buddies that are sheriff's and their policy is that they HAVE to wear their vests while on the range. Has to do with training and maybe a little bit of safety. I would imagine the same reason hockey players always practice with gloves on instead of bare hands.

I suspect that you might only wear it once as after a good ribbing from everyone else on the range you'll be too embarrased to wear it again.

In 18 years of shooting I've never seen anyone hurt by being hit by splashback from a steel plate or backstop.

X2. You want to freak out the bystanders?

Really, it doesn't hurt that much. :p

REAL IPSCers don't need to steenkin' vest.........

The worse i have ever had happen to me was at an indoor range where the 'ventian blind" baffles had sagged and allowed a flat spot to be available. i was ROing a shooter with a 45 and got hit in the neck with the riccochet. it did actually cut my neck but that was nothing compared to the hot piece of lead that fell down the front of my shirt! there i was jumping around trying to grab the piece of lead inside of my shirt and trying to watch the shooter. and where was my CRO? he was laying on the ground laughing his guts out at my antics in trying to get hold of the peice of lead! anyhow the range was about 7 yeads, the cut to my neck was minor (Cathy draws more blood :}) and all i did was wipe the blood off and kept shooting for the evening. no need for a vest from personal experience.

x2.

You would be better off wearing your body armour on public transit. Statistically you have a better chance of being hit on the bus than at the range.
I would probably point and giggle, none too subtly, along with everyone else on the range.
